Abdominal aortic aneurysmectomy associated with a native iliac kidney. Case report.

J Cardiovasc Surg (Torino)

Division of General Surgery, USL 31 Borselli Hospital, Bondeno Ferrara, Italy.

Published: February 1993

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair associated with a pelvic kidney is extremely rare. To date only 14 cases have been reported in the literature. The main problem during aortic cross clamping is kidney preservation. The purpose of this article is to record and additional case of AAA repair associated with a native pelvic kidney. The preservation has been successfully achieved by a distal aortic double clamping.

Objectives: Celiac artery (CA) incorporation during FB-EVAR for complex abdominal aortic aneurysms (cAAA) is typically performed with fenestrations. Double-wide scallops (DWS) can be used when appropriate. We aimed to assess outcomes of patients treated with DWS for the CA during FB-EVAR for cAAA.

A 60-year-old female patient was referred for further diagnosis and treatment of a posterior mediastinal lesion. The lesion was incidentally discovered in a CT scan of the chest and abdomen, which had been performed due to an increased CA 19-9 in routine blood tests. At the time point of the referral, the lesion had already been biopsied twice (CT guided and through EUS) but the histopathology was inconclusive.

Background And Aim: Prior investigations of the natural history of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) have been constrained by small sample sizes or uneven assessments of aggregated data. Natural language processing (NLP) can significantly enhance the investigation and treatment of patients with AAAs by swiftly and effectively collecting imaging data from health records. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy of NLP techniques in reliably identifying the existence or absence of AAAs and measuring the maximal abdominal aortic diameter in extensive datasets of radiology study reports.

Aims: Image-based, patient-specific rupture risk analysis of AAAs is promising but it is limited by invasive and costly imaging modalities. Ultrasound (US) offers a safe, more affordable alternative, allowing multiple assessments during follow-up and enabling longitudinal studies on AAA rupture risk.

Methods And Results: This study used time-resolved three-dimensional US to assess AAA rupture risk parameters over time, based on vessel and intraluminal thrombus (ILT) geometry.
