In this case, the electroencephalogram (EEG) was used to guide anesthesia care for a pediatric patient with Alexander's Disease undergoing serial intrathecal injections. Previous procedures using a standard maintenance propofol dose of up to 225 µg/kg/min led to postanesthetic recovery times of over 6 hours, requiring a neurology consult for noncoherence. The EEG assisted in guiding maintenance propofol dosing to 75 µg/kg/min, decreasing postanesthetic wash-off and postanesthesia care unit (PACU) recovery time by 50%.

A young lady was brought to the hospital by the police after they found her wandering in the streets far away from her home behaving oddly. At admission, she was confused and had various delusional thoughts accompanied by visual and auditory hallucinations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of seletracetam (SEL), a potent modulator of synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A), in patients with photoparoxysmal EEG response (PPR) to intermittent photic stimulation (IPS) as proof-of-principle of efficacy in patients with epilepsy. In this multicenter, single-blind Phase II study, adults with photosensitive epilepsy, with/without concomitant antiseizure medication therapy, underwent IPS under 3 eye conditions (at eye closure, eyes closed and eyes open) after a single oral dose of placebo (day - 1) or SEL (day 1; 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 10, or 20 mg).

Background: Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) is a rare genetic condition caused by mutation to TSC1 or TSC2 genes, with a population prevalence of 1/7000 births. TSC manifests behaviorally with features of autism, epilepsy, and intellectual disability. Resting state electroencephalography (EEG) offers a window into neural oscillatory activity and may serve as an intermediate biomarker between gene expression and behavioral manifestations.

Opioid dependence is defined by an aversive withdrawal syndrome upon drug cessation that can motivate continued drug-taking, development of opioid use disorder, and precipitate relapse. An understudied but common opioid withdrawal symptom is disrupted sleep, reported as both insomnia and daytime sleepiness. Despite the prevalence and severity of sleep disturbances during opioid withdrawal, there is a gap in our understanding of their interactions.
