The carboxylesterases from Proteus vulgaris, Salmonella enterica and Citrobacter amalonaticus were purified 104-, 95- and 120-fold, respectively by chromatography. The enzymes had similar catalytic activities but differed considerably in their inactivation by heat, di-isopropyl fluorophosphate and Cd2+, Zn2+, Hg2+ and Cu2+. Quantitative neutralization of hydrolytic activity with specific immunoglobulins indicated that the three enzymes were antigenically distinct.

Prunella vulgaris L., a globally recognized medicinal and edible plant, has been extensively used in China for over 2000 years, possessing the efficacy of clearing liver-fire, brightening the eyes, dispersing the knot, and reducing swelling. Phytochemical studies have shown that Prunella vulgaris contains various biologically active compounds, including flavonoids, triterpenes, polysaccharides, and phenolic acids.

Bacteria and Archaea are microorganisms that play key roles in the biogeochemical transformations that control water quality in freshwater ecosystems, such as in reservoirs. In this study, we characterize the prokaryotic community of a high-relevance tropical eutrophic reservoir using a 16S rRNA gene survey during a low-water level fluctuation period mainly used for storage, associating the distribution of these microorganisms with the hydrogeochemical conditions of the water column. Our findings revealed that diversity and structure of the prokaryotic community exhibited spatio-temporal variations driven by the annual circulation-stratification hydrodynamic cycle and are significantly correlated with the concentrations of dissolved oxygen (DO), soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP), and dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN).

A 9-year-old mixed breed cat with a history of recurrent ulcerated skin lesions was diagnosed with nocardiosis. Three months after initiating potentiated sulfonamide treatment, the cat developed goitrous hypothyroidism, characterized by palpable enlargement of both thyroid lobes, low serum concentrations of total thyroxine (T4) and free thyroxine (fT4), and high serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) concentration. Thyroid scintigraphy identified symmetrical enlargement of both thyroid lobes, with increased radionuclide (Tc-pertechnetate) uptake.

Lactic acid bacteria are widely recognized for their probiotic properties, and their adhesion to the gastrointestinal tract is a prerequisite for their probiotic functions. This investigation aimed to screen a highly adherent strain and explore the impact of its surface lipoteichoic acid (LTA) on strain adhesion to intestinal epithelial cells and the immunomodulatory activity. Results demonstrated that ZJ316 exhibited remarkable surface properties and superior adhesion to enterocytes, and the fluorescent labeling revealed that ZJ316 predominantly adhered to the cecum in mice.

This study synthesized graphene oxide (GO)/zinc oxide (ZnO)/silver (Ag) composite materials and investigated their photocatalytic degradation performance for ciprofloxacin (CIP) under visible light irradiation. GO/ZnO/Ag composites with different ratios were prepared via an impregnation and chemical reduction method and characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results demonstrated that under optimal conditions (20 mg/L CIP concentration, 15 mg catalyst dosage, GO/ZnO-3%/Ag-doping ratio, and pH 5), the GO/ZnO/Ag composite exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity, achieving a maximum degradation rate of 82.
