The objective of the study, conducted in the general wards of Flinders Medical Center in South Australia, was to determine whether the risk of needlestick injuries from hypodermic needles could be reduced by the use of needle covers that are applied with a one-handed technique immediately after use of the needle. Baseline rates of needlestick injury were collected for a year prior to the use of needle covers, and incident cases of needlestick injury were collected after needle covers were introduced. The odds ratio, derived from pre- and post-intervention data, for injuries over which the use of needle covers could have had no influence, was used to show that the net effect of other influences on needlestick rates was not significant. The use of needle covers was associated with a significant reduction in needlestick injuries to nurses. The odds ratio for needlestick injury for nurse injuries that needle covers could not have prevented was 0.92. (95% CI 0.40-2.03). The odds ratio for needlestick injury for nurse injuries that needle covers could have prevented was 0.40 (95% CI 0.18-0.82). Although the odds of ratio for needlestick injury to cleaners was 0.19, the 95% exact confidence interval was 0.00-1.64.

Cytologically indeterminate thyroid nodules (Bethesda class III or IV) carry a 10-40% risk of malignancy. Diagnostic lobectomies are frequently performed but negative surgeries incur unnecessary costs on the healthcare system, potential complications, and negative impacts on quality of life. Molecular tests (MTs) have been developed to reduce unnecessary surgeries.

Aim: To measure the optimal anterior chamber pressure (ACP) for safe phacoemulsification using a new tube chamber system with internal pressure measurement function in the porcine eye.
Methods: The 20-gauge and 21-gauge straight tips with yellow and orange sleeves, respectively, were covered by a test chamber combined with a pressure sensor for measuring ACP. This was measured for 20s from 10s after starting aspiration in the linear mode using vacuum levels of 200 and 150 mm Hg with a 20-gauge tip, and 300 and 250 mm Hg with a 21-gauge tip.

Introduction: To evaluate the bacterial biofilm, smear layer and debris removal efficacy of a hydro-dynamic cavitation system with physiological saline using a new ex vivo model.
Methods: Seventy-five dentin discs were prepared from fifty-four extracted teeth. Seventy-five artificial root sockets were prepared.

Electrospinning is a versatile technique for obtaining nano/micro fibers which are able to significantly change the active properties of composite materials and bring in new dimensions to agri-food applications. Composite bio-based packaging materials obtained from whey proteins, functionalized with thyme essential oil (TEO) and reinforced by electrospun polylactic acid (PLA) fibers, represent a promising solution for developing new active food packaging using environmentally friendly materials. The aim of this study is to obtain and characterize one-side-active composite films covered with a PLA fiber mat: (i) WF/G1, WF/G2, and WF/G3 resulting from electrospinning with one needle at different electrospinning times of 90, 150, and 210 min, respectively, and (ii) WF/G4 obtained with two face-to-face needles after 210 min of electrospinning.

Determining the values of various properties for new bio-inks for 3D printing is a very important task in the design of new materials. For this purpose, a large number of experimental works have been consulted, and a database with more than 1200 bioprinting tests has been created. These tests cover different combinations of conditions in terms of print pressure, temperature, and needle values, for example.
