Seventy-seven ears of patients with Menière's disease (n = 69) and other ears with secondary endolymphatic hydrops (n = 8) underwent valved shunt surgery, and were monitored with intraoperative electrocochleography (ECoG) using clicks stimuli (n = 77), and both clicks and tone bursts (n = 37). Of the 41 ears in which the "baseline" measurement was > 35% summating potential to action potential (SP/AP) amplitude click ratio, 23 ears (56%) showed a significant ratio decrease (improvement). Twenty-six ears out of the 37 that were monitored by both clicks and tone bursts had abnormal absolute SP tone bursts amplitudes at "baseline" and 8 ears (31%) changed to normal at "closing". When tone burst ECoG information is combined with click stimuli, our basic understanding of click ECoG is enhanced and our ability to assess electrophysiologic changes intraoperatively is improved.

Background And Objective: One of the functions attributed to the auditory efferent system is related to the processing of acoustic stimuli in noise backgrounds. However, clinical implications and the neurophysiological mechanisms of this system are not yet understood, especially on higher regions of the central nervous system. Only a few researchers studied the effects of noise on cortical auditory evoked potentials (CAEP), but the lack of studies in this area and the contradictory results, especially in children, point to the need to investigate different protocols and parameters that could allow the study of top-down activity in humans.

This study delves into the feasibility of leveraging quasi-static component (QSC) generation during primary Lamb wave propagation to discern subtle alterations in the interfacial properties of a two-layered plate. Unlike the second-harmonic generation of Lamb waves, QSC generation doesn't necessitate precise phase-velocity matching but rather requires an approximate matching of group velocities to ensure the emergence of cumulative growth effects. This unique characteristic empowers the QSC-based nonlinear ultrasonic method to effectively surmount the limitations associated with inherent dispersion and multimode traits of Lamb wave propagation.

Although previous work has demonstrated that oral contraceptive pill (OCP) use does not affect resting muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA), growing evidence indicates that it attenuates neurogenic vasoconstriction. Despite these advances, it remains unknown how OCP use affects the ability of MSNA to dynamically control vascular tone and arterial blood pressure (BP) on a beat-by-beat basis. Importance: Infrequent intraprocedural premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) limit the efficacy of catheter ablation. Intravascular stimulation of sympathetic nerves via vertebral veins (VVs) has been used to activate cardiac sympathetic tone and may promote PVCs.
