The desmoplastic ameloblastoma is a rare histologic variant of ameloblastoma. This article presents a case of desmoplastic ameloblastoma with unique and complex histologic findings. The tumor, which was located in the anterior mandible, was treated by an anterior marginal resection with preservation of the inferior border of the mandible. The clinical, radiographic, surgical, and pathologic aspects of this unusual lesion are presented, and the relevant literature is reviewed.

Ameloblastoma represents a rare and locally aggressive odontogenic neoplasm, notable for its histopathological diversity. Among its subtypes, the desmoplastic and plexiform variants are relatively rare, with the hybrid form, encompassing both architectural patterns, representing an even more exceptional entity. This article delineates the clinical, radiological, and histopathological profile of a 45-year-old male presenting with pain persisting over the past month in the right posterior maxillary region.

Pulmonary metastasis of ameloblastoma is a rare associated with the histopathologically plexiform types of ameloblastoma. In this report, we present an exceptionally rare case of pulmonary metastatic ameloblastoma without local recurrence, emerging 12 years post-initial resection. A female patient, initially diagnosed with mandibular desmoplastic ameloblastoma, revealed masses in both lung fields of the lung on chest radiography, while chest computed tomography revealed more than 10 nodules in both lungs.

Objectives: Microvascular free tissue transfer (MVFTT) for head and neck reconstruction is infrequently performed in pediatric patients. There is a paucity of data on perioperative airway management in pediatric MVFTT, such as the need for tracheostomy, which can pose higher morbidity to young patients due to potential long-term effects on the softer, more pliable laryngotracheal cartilage. Our objective was to report airway outcomes on pediatric patients undergoing MVFTT after segmental mandibulectomy with or without tracheostomy.

Cone-beam computed tomography imaging of benign odontogenic lesions in the maxilla: A report of 2 cases.

Radiol Case Rep

December 2024

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya 60132, Indonesia.

Article Synopsis
  • Odontogenic tumors are generally slow-growing but can exhibit aggressive traits; the report discusses two cases of benign lesions in the anterior maxilla.
  • A 44-year-old woman experienced gradual swelling following a dental injury, while a 50-year-old woman had a similar issue that persisted for 5 years without pain.
  • Both cases showed through CBCT imaging that the lesions had features of moderate growth and erosion, with biopsy results indicating they were benign, specifically desmoplastic ameloblastoma and squamous odontogenic tumor, highlighting the need for careful diagnosis.

Molecular insights into hybrid tumors: Exploring the heterogeneity in plexiform ameloblastoma.

Semin Diagn Pathol

Head of Department of Oral Pathology, King George's Medical University, Lucknow, UP 226003, India. Electronic address:

For many years, odontogenic tumors have been known to present both clinical and histopathological challenges due to their origins in the epithelial, ectomesenchymal, and/or mesenchymal components of tooth-forming tissues. Gaining a comprehensive understanding of both common and rare odontogenic tumors is crucial for their effective study and clinical management. One particularly puzzling tumor is the "plexiform ameloblastoma," a variant of the solid multicystic ameloblastoma.
