Magnetic nanorobots are emerging players in thrombolytic therapy due to their noninvasive remote actuation and drug loading capabilities. Although the nanorobots with a size under 100 nm are ideal to apply in microvascular systems, the propulsion performance of nanorobots is inevitably compromised due to the limited response to magnetic fields. Here, we demonstrate a nattokinase-loaded magnetic vortex nanorobot (NK-MNR) with an average size around 70 nm and high saturation magnetization for mechanical propelling and thermal responsive thrombolysis under a magnetic field with dual frequencies.

Thrombosis presents a critical health threat globally, with high mortality and incidence rates. Clinical treatment faces challenges such as low thrombolytic agent bioavailability, thrombosis recurrence, ischemic hypoxia damage, and neural degeneration. This study developed biocompatible Chlamydomonas Reinhardtii micromotors (CHL) with photo/magnetic capabilities to address these needs.

Nattokinase (NK) is an enzyme that has been recognized as a new potential thrombolytic drug due to its strong thrombolytic activity. However, it is difficult to maintain the enzyme activity of NK during high temperature environment of industrial production. In this study, we constructed six NK mutants with potential for higher thermostability using a rational protein engineering strategy integrating free energy-based methods and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation.

Current thrombolytic drugs exhibit suboptimal therapeutic outcomes and potential bleeding risks due to their limited circulation time, inadequate thrombus penetration, and off-target biodistribution. Herein, a photosensitizer-loaded, red cell membrane-encapsuled multiple magnetic nanoparticles aggregate is successfully developed for integrated mechanical/photothermal/photodynamic thrombolysis. Red cell membrane coating endows magnetic particles with prolonged blood circulation and superior biocompatibility.

Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic acid, ASA), one of the widely used non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs can easily end up in sewage effluents and thus it becomes necessary to investigate the effects of aspirin on behaviour of aquatic organisms. Previous studies in mammals have shown ASA to alter fear and anxiety-like behaviours. In the great pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis, ASA has been shown to block a 'sickness state' induced by lipopolysaccharide injection which upregulates immune and stress-related genes thus altering behavioural responses.
