This paper reports childhood meningioma in association with meningioangiomatosis. The patient was an 11-month-old baby boy who presented with a left focal seizure. He had no stigmata of neurofibromatosis. Computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed an extra-axial, contrast-enhancing mass in the interhemispheric fissure which indented the right frontal lobe. The tumor was totally removed. Microscopically, the lesion was a fibrous and transitional meningioma with foci of necrosis and scattered mitotic figures. The adherent neural parenchyma showed the histological features of meningioangiomatosis. It is concluded that meningioangiomatosis may accompany childhood meningiomas more often than is generally appreciated.

Radiodiagnosis, AIIMS Nagpur, Nagpur, Maharashtra, India.

A boy in his middle childhood presented with a gradually enlarging, mildly tender swelling in the left frontal region, noticed after minor trauma. Skull radiograph and non-enhanced CT revealed a diffuse sclerotic lesion involving the left frontal bone and overlying subcutaneous soft tissue, suggestive of an intraosseous haemangioma. Contrast-enhanced MRI showed an expansile, hypointense lesion in the frontal bone on the left side with enhancing extraosseous components and a small extra-axial cyst.

The problem at hand is the significant global health challenge posed by children's diseases, where timely and accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment and management. Conventional diagnosis techniques are typical, use tedious processes and generate inaccurate results since they are executed by human beings and cause delays in treatment that can be fatal. Considering these and other shortcomings there exists a need to have more efficient and accurate solutions based on artificial intelligence.

Purpose: It is not known whether temporal changes in childhood cancer therapy have reduced risk of subsequent malignant neoplasms (SMNs) of the central nervous system (CNS), a frequently fatal late effect of cancer therapy.

Methods: Five-year survivors of primary childhood cancers diagnosed between 1970-1999 in the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study with a subsequent CNS SMN were identified. Cumulative incidence rates and standardized incidence ratios (SIR) were compared among survivors diagnosed between 1970-1979 (N = 6223), 1980-1989 (N = 9680), and 1990-1999 (N = 8999).

Henan Provincial Key Laboratory of Genetic Diseases and Functional Genomics, Medical Genetics Institute of Henan Province, Henan Provincial People's Hospital, People's Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou 450000, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses a gene that encodes a key part of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex, important for gene expression regulation, linked to Coffin-Siris syndrome type 3 (CSS3).
  • A family with two adult patients having a new missense mutation (c.1091A>C, p.Lys364Thr) was studied, revealing issues with verbal learning and language delays.
  • One patient developed meningioma, and findings suggest the mutation may improperly activate the MAPK signaling pathway, highlighting a connection between genetic mutations, neurodevelopmental disorders, and tumor formation.

Neglected Case of Cervical Meningocele in an Adult.

Turk Neurosurg

Medical Park Ankara Hospital, Department of Neurosurgery, Ankara, Türkiye.

Neural tube defects (NTD), caused by a disturbance in the neurulation process, are easily diagnosed and treated in the early years of life. Although early repair of NTD is advocated, there is lacking information on its natural course. There are only 11 cases, including this one, reported in literature of a cervical meningocele diagnosed and treated in an adult.
