Thirty-three patients with Mallory-Weiss syndrome have been treated at the Clinic of Emergency Surgery in Sofia for a period of 11 years (1980-1990). According to treatment and outcome they were classified as follows: conservative treatment--7 patients, electrocoagulation--16, sclerosing procedure--10, successful endoscopic hemostasis--17, emergency surgical intervention--9, relapse of bleeding after endoscopic surgery--9, death from hemorrhage--4, total case fatality--12.1 per cent, operative case fatality rate--33.3 per cent.

Inflammatory bowel disease is a collection of intestinal disorders that cause inflammation in the digestive tract. Prolonged inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract is a major risk factor for colorectal cancer. The objective of this study was to fucus on gene expression levels of (KRT-14; associated with epithelial cell integrity) and enhancer of zeste homolog-1 (EZH-2; involved in cellular proliferation) in a IBD rat model in order to rule out impact of nutraceuticals (pumpkin seed oil; PSO) as a complementary approach to conventional treatments of IBD.

A 44 year-old previously healthy woman presented a persistent epigastric pain. Computed tomography revealed a saccular aneurysm with a diameter of 25x20 mm in the first jejunal artery and also a stenosis in the celiac trunk associated with median arcuate ligament syndrome, turning the hepatic perfusion dependent of the gastroduodenal artery flow. Through a midline laparotomy, celiac axis was exposed, and median arcuate ligament released for median arcuate ligament syndrome treatment.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) associated with major vasculature tumor extension is considered an advanced stage of disease to which palliative radiotherapy or chemotherapy is proposed. Surgical resection associated with chemotherapy or chemoembolization could be an opportunity to improve overall survival and recurrence-free survival in selected cases in a high-volume hepatobiliary center. Moreover, it has been 25 years since Couinaud described the entity of a posterior liver located behind an axial plane crossing the portal bifurcation.
