We have found that 3-(3-(ethoxycarbonyl)propionyl)-8-methoxy-4-((2- methylphenyl)amino)quinoline (1, CP-113,411), a reversible inhibitor of gastric H+/K(+)-ATPase (IC50 10-20 mM), is also a potent inhibitor of bone resorption by osteoclasts in a bone slice assay at concentrations as low as 10(-7) M, with an IC50 of 2 mM. By contrast, the structurally related H+/K(+)-ATPase inhibitor 2 (3-(ethoxycarbonyl)-8-methoxy-4-((2-methylphenyl)amino)quinoline) disclosed by Robins is slightly more potent as an inhibitor of the gastric enzyme (IC50 3-10 microM in our hands) but less efficacious than 1 as an inhibitor of osteoclasts in the bone slice assay at the lower concentrations (no effect at < or = 10(-6) M, IC50 4 mM). These findings suggest that osteoclasts contain an H+/K(+)-ATPase-like enzyme which differs from the gastric one.

Objectives: To study the clinical effect of the L-shape technique combined with concentrated growth factor on the horizontal bone defects of maxillary anterior teeth.
Methods: Twenty-five implants from 25 patients who underwent single maxillary anterior tooth implantation with simultaneous bone grafting were selected as the study subjects. Based on the bone grafting techniques, the patients were divided into a test group (L-shaped technique with guided bone regeneration combined with concentrated growth factor, 11 cases) and a control group (traditional guided bone regeneration combined with concentrated growth factor, 14 cases).

Diffuse sclerosing osteomyelitis (DSO) is a non-bacterial disease of the jawbone, characterized by intermittent pain, swelling, and a mixture of osteosclerosis and osteolysis on radiographs. Its etiology remains unclear, and a standard treatment, based on clear diagnostic criteria, has not been established. We present the case of a 48-year-old male patient, who was initially diagnosed with chronic mandibular osteomyelitis due to apical periodontitis in the right lower second premolar, and underwent antimicrobial medication and surgical therapy based on computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and bone scintigraphy.
