3-Phenoxybenzoic acid, labelled at either the 3-phenoxy[U-ring C-14] or carbonyl C-14, produced the corresponding labelled transitory metabolite 4'-hydroxy-3-phenoxybenzoic acid when incubated with chicken liver microsomal preparation. The other radioactive reaction product identified from the metabolism of the carbonyl-labelled 3-phenoxybenzoic acid was labelled 3-hydroxybenzoic acid, whereas metabolism of the [U-ring] labelled 3-phenoxybenzoic acid produced labelled hydroquinone in addition to 4'-hydroxy-3-phenoxybenzoic acid. Formation of both 4'-hydroxy-3-phenoxybenzoic acid, and its subsequent conversion to 3-hydroxybenzoic andhydroquinone were NADPH and oxygen dependent. The reaction was inhibited by carbon monoxide, but not by piperonyl butoxide or metyrapone. The inhibition by carbon monoxide suggests that the enzyme(s) involved in the cleavage is a form of P450. The enzyme(s) is a monooxygenase and has requirement for NADPH and oxygen.

Extensive use of pyrethroid insecticides poses significant risks to both ecological ecosystems and human beings. Herein, Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 exhibited exceptional degradation capabilities towards a range of pyrethroid family insecticides including etofenprox, bifenthrin, tetramethrin, D-cypermethrin, allethrin, and permethrin, with a degradation efficiency reaching over 84 % within 36 h (50 mg·L). Strain PAO1 demonstrated effective soil bioremediation by removing etofenprox across different concentrations (25-100 mg·kg), with a degradation efficiency over 77 % within 15 days.

We investigated the effect of exposure to pesticide mixtures during pregnancy on the placental transcriptome, to link these exposures and placental functions. The Study of Asian Women and their Offspring's Development and Environmental Exposures (SAWASDEE) enrolled pregnant farmworkers from Thailand (n = 248), who were primarily exposed to organophosphate (OP) and pyrethroid pesticides. We measured maternal urinary levels of six non-specific OP metabolites expressed as three summary measures (dimethylalkylphosphates (DMAP), diethylalkylphosphates (DEAP), and dialkylphosphates (DAP) and three pyrethroid metabolites (3-phenoxybenzoic acid (3-PBA), cis- and trans-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane carboxylic acid (cis-DCCA, trans-DCCA) during early, middle, and late pregnancy, and adjusted for urine dilution using creatinine.

Pyrethroids constitute a large group of insecticides widely used in agriculture, indoor environments, and in vector control. Structurally, pyrethroids resemble thyroid hormones, and have been suggested to be thyroid hormone disruptors based on experimental studies. Pyrethroid pesticide residues have detrimental effects on soil ecology and crop growth during insecticidal operations in agriculture. In this study, a novel strain VF-2 was isolated from long-term pesticide-treated cropland and had a maximum degradation efficiency of 81.66% for synthetic pyrethroid β-cypermethrin (β-CY) under optimized conditions.
