This study examined the effects of anabolic steroids and exhaustive endurance exercise, and the combination of both treatments on in vitro cardiac contractile function. Fifty-two male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned, in groups of 13, to one of the four groups: sedentary control (C), steroid-treated (ST), exercise-trained (E), and exercise plus steroid treated (E+S). Nandrolone decanoate was administered to the steroid-treated groups every 7-9 days during the 10 weeks study, while the C and E groups received glycerol injection on these occasions. The exercised rats ran on a treadmill wearing a collar weight (2-3% of body weight) for 50 min, 5 days a week. In vitro ventricular performance was assessed in isolated Langendorff perfused hearts in response to increasing left ventricular balloon volumes. Left ventricular +dP/dt, dP/dt at 60 mmHg developed pressure, tension time index, and Emax (slope of the pressure-volume curves) were significantly (p < 0.05) lowered in the E+S group, as compared to the C, E, or ST group. Meanwhile, the E group exhibited a higher (p < 0.05) left ventricular systolic pressure (LVSP) than the C and E+S groups. No significant differences in dP/dt/P, heart weight (wt), and heart wt to body wt ratio were detected among the four groups. Rats subjected to endurance exercise or anabolic steroid treatment alone exhibited no change in LV function.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

This study aimed to examine and compare the anthropometric profiles, motor skills, game-related abilities, and functional capacities of under-15 (U-15) and under-16 (U-16) male basketball players, evaluate the impact of maturity offset, and predict performance across physical and sport-specific domains. A total of 234 athletes participated in a comprehensive test battery, assessing morphological (height, mass, standing reach), physical (sprinting, agility, jump height, endurance), technical (jump shot, free throws, dribbling), and functional movement screen variables. The U-16 group outperformed U-15 players in physical characteristics and jump height.

Myofibrillar myopathy (MFM) is characterized by segmental disarray of myofibrils and ectopic accumulation of a protein called desmin. Previously thought to be a glycogen storage disease, MFM is now recognized as a stand-alone myopathy. Endurance Arabians with MFM usually present with exertional rhabdomyolysis (MFM-ER) at the end of races, elevated serum muscle enzymes, and myoglobinuria.

The maintenance of an appropriate ratio of body fat to muscle mass is essential for the preservation of health and performance, as excessive body fat is associated with an increased risk of various diseases. Accurate body composition assessment requires precise segmentation of structures. In this study we developed a novel automatic machine learning approach for volumetric segmentation and quantitative assessment of MRI volumes and investigated the efficacy of using a machine learning algorithm to assess muscle, subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT), and bone volume of the thigh before and after a strength training.

Objectives: While ketone bodies are not the main heart fuel, exercise may increase their uptake. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effect of 6-week endurance training and Pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 )PDK4( inhibition on ketone bodies metabolism in the heart of diabetic rats with emphasis on the role of Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator PGC-1alpha (PGC-1α).
Materials And Methods: Sixty male Wistar rats were divided into eight groups: healthy control group (CONT), endurance training group (TRA), diabetic group (DM), DM + EX group, Dichloroacetate (DCA) group, DM + DCA group, TRA + DCA group, and DM + TRA + DCA group.

Exercise in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) remains a hot topic, although current treatment strategies have not been shown to improve the long-term prognosis of HFpEF. Previous studies have mostly focused on the roles of endurance training, the mechanisms underlying long-term voluntary exercise have not been elucidated. The purpose of the present analysis was to evaluate alterations in cardiac function in HFpEF mice (HFpEF-Sed) after 6 weeks of voluntary running (HFpEF-Ex), investigate mechanisms, and compare the effects with fluoxetine (HFpEF-FLX).
