Two enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) for the diagnosis of bovine virus diarrhoea (BVD) are described: CHEKIT-BVD-VIRUS and CHEKIT-BVD-SERO. The first test detects virus antigen in leucocytes, resulting in identification of persistently-infected animals, while the second detects antibodies to BVD virus (BVDV). It is well known that even persistently-infected animals may have antibodies to heterologous BVDV strains. These animals are still negative to the CHEKIT-BVD-SERO test because of immunotolerance to conserved virus antigens. Data on these two tests are summarised and a scheme is presented for the diagnosis of BVD using a combination of these two tests.

Background: Bovine viral diarrhoea virus genotype 1 (BVDV-1) and bluetongue virus (BTV) are potent viral pathogens that may be transmitted through semen, resulting in the spread of diseases via artificial insemination. Thus, establishing an early detection method for BVDV-1 and BTV infection is important for the trading of semen. Monitoring cancer biomarkers is of great significance in clinical diagnosis. In this work, a label-free MWCNTs-COOH/CuNi-BTC/FTO electrochemical immunosensor was developed to quantitatively detect carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). The bimetallic CuNi-BTC showed enhanced current than singe Ni-BTC, and the addition of the MWCNTs-COOH increased the conductivity and further amplified the current signal.

Genomic data on from the African continent are currently lacking, resulting in the region being under-represented in global analyses of infection (CDI) epidemiology. For the first time in Nigeria, we utilized whole-genome sequencing and phylogenetic tools to compare isolates from diarrhoeic human patients (=142), livestock (=38), poultry manure (=5) and dogs (=9) in the same geographic area (Makurdi, north-central Nigeria) and relate them to the global population. In addition, selected isolates were tested for antimicrobial susceptibility (=33) and characterized by PCR ribotyping (=53).
