Saragossa city supply channel and the river Ebro (up and downstream urban sewage) were studied for the presence of coliphages and B. fragilis phages and their relationship with the bacterian faecal indicators. In the supply channel the coliphages geometric mean was of 130 ufp/100 ml, and showed no correlation with faecal and total coliforms, but it showed indirect correlation with ambient temperature. In the river Ebro the coliphages geometric mean ranged from 290 to 8,000 ufp/100 ml; the relationship with total and faecal coliforms and faecal streptococci was high, but they were temperature independent. With the methodology utilized B. fragilis phages only were recovered in samples with faecal coliforms levels > 1 x 10(4) ufc/100 ml.

The Southern California Bight is an ecologically important region for many local and migratory fauna. We combine bulk and compound-specific amino acid stable isotope measurements in the skeletons of proteinaceous octocorals with new regional ocean modeling system model output to explore biogeochemical changes at two locations within the Bight - Santa Cruz Basin and Santa Barbara Channel. Separated by the Channel Islands, these sites display distinct oceanographic regimes.

Electroencephalographic signals are obtained by amplifying and recording the brain's spontaneous biological potential using electrodes positioned on the scalp. While proven to help find changes in brain activity with a high temporal resolution, such signals are contaminated by non-stationary and frequent artefacts. A plethora of noise reduction techniques have been developed, achieving remarkable performance.

Generally, the electrocardiography (ECG) system plays an important role in preventing and diagnosing heart diseases. To further improve the amenity and convenience of using an ECG system, we built a customized capacitive electrocardiography (cECG) system with one wet electrode, sixteen non-contact electrodes, two ADS1299 chips, and one STM32F303-based microcontroller unit (MCU). This new cECG system could acquire, save, and display the ECG data in real time.

This study evaluates the performance of continuous flow and drop-based microfluidic devices for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) under identical hydrodynamic and chemical conditions. Flows at low values of Dean number (De < 1) were investigated, where the contribution of the vortices forming inside the drop to the additional mixing inside the reactor should be most noticeable. In the drop-based microfluidic device, discrete aqueous drops serving as reactors were generated by flow focusing using silicone oil as the continuous phase.

With the emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), the demand on the wireless power supply to consumer electronics simultaneously requires much more location freedom, ease of use, and performance with wireless communications. In this paper, an unenclosed quasi-static cavity resonator (QSCR) constructed with metallic strips and the design method are proposed and theoretically analyzed. This unenclosed QSCR has a simple structure, which benefits the wireless charging for portable/wearable electronics and smart appliances in the office and home environment.
