Tick-borne spotted fever rickettsioses (SFRs) continue to cause severe illness and death in otherwise-healthy individuals due to lack of a timely and reliable diagnostic laboratory test. We recently identified a diagnostic biomarker for SFRs, the putative N-acetylmuramoyl-l-alanine amidase RC0497. Here, we developed a prototype laboratory test that targets RC0497 for diagnosis of SFRs.

A polarimeter is a common but critical instrument for measuring the optical rotation of chiral compounds, ranging from the pharmaceutical to chemical industry, or even employed in monitoring chemical reactions for research purposes. Developing a portable polarimeter helps to transfer the measurements from the laboratory to on-site detection. Herein, we design a new portable polarimeter with a "hand-held" scale.

Method Validation for Estimation of Imidacloprid and its Metabolites in Maize and Soil by LCMS-MS.

J Chromatogr Sci

January 2025

Pesticide Residue Analysis Laboratory, Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana 141004, Punjab, India.

Validation of Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe (QuEChERS) method was performed for estimation of imidacloprid (IM) and its metabolites in maize leaves, immature kernels, mature kernels, stalk, and soil using liquid chromatograph tandem mass spectrometry, coupled with electrospray ionization. The extraction in different matrices of maize and soil was performed using acetonitrile +0.1% formic acid followed by clean-up with primary secondary amine sorbent and anhydrous magnesium sulfate.

Urinary biomarkers of preeclampsia: An update.

Adv Clin Chem

January 2025

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Electronic address:

Preeclampsia (PE), a pregnancy-related syndrome, has motivated extensive research to understand its pathophysiology and develop early diagnostic methods. 'Omic' technologies, focusing on genes, mRNA, proteins, and metabolites, have revolutionized biological system studies. Urine emerges as an ideal non-invasive specimen for omics analysis, offering accessibility, easy collection, and stability, making it valuable for identifying biomarkers.
