The antisense mRNA complementary to the sense strand of Metenkephalin encodes the antisense peptides, His-Glu-Ala-Pro-Ile (compound 88/62). The antisense peptide and its (Gln1)-analogue (compound 88/63) have synergestic effects on the opioid activity of Met-enkephalin in the GPI test system.

Background: Neurodegenerative disorders of aging are characterized by the progressive accumulation of proteins such as α-synuclein (α-syn) and amyloid beta (Aβ). Misfolded and aggregated α-syn has been implicated in neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease (PD), and Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB), but less so in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) despite the fact that synuclein pathology is present in over 50% of postmortem brains of AD patients. We are now expanding on our previous studies which showed positive therapeutic effects of downregulating α-syn in AD mice to understand the overall brain transcriptomic and mechanistic changes induced by treatment.

Background: The orexin/hypocretin neuropeptide system, primarily found in the lateral hypothalamus and perifornical region, modulates sleep, wakefulness, appetite, and cognitive function. One region with dense orexinergic projections is the basal forebrain (BF), which is the major source of acetylcholine in the neocortex and limbic structures such as the hippocampus. The basal forebrain cholinergic system mediates cognition and dysfunction is one of the key hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease.

Peptides have been extensively studied in nanomedicine with great bioactivity and biocompatibility; however, their poor cell-membrane-penetrating properties and nonselectivity greatly limit their clinical applications. In this study, tumor-targeting therapy was achieved by modifying our previously developed efficient peptide vector with the cancer-targeting peptide RGD, enabling it to specifically target tumor cells with a high expression of RGD-binding receptors. B-cell lymphoma-2 antisense oligonucleotides were selected as the target model to validate the effectiveness of the delivery carriers.

Pollen development and germination play a crucial role in the sexual reproduction of plants. This study analysis of transcriptional dynamics of foxtail millet pollen with other tissues and organs (ovule, glume, seedling and root) through RNA-sequencing revealed that a total of 940 genes were up-regulated in foxtail millet pollen. Based on this, we analyzed the genes involved in pollen tube growth of receptor kinases and small peptides, calcium signaling, small G proteins, vesicle transport, cytoskeleton, cell wall correlation, and transcription factors that are up-regulated in pollen.

Ischemic stroke represents a highly perilous cerebrovascular disorder, involving a variety of complex pathophysiological mechanisms. OIP5 antisense RNA 1 (OIP5-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) that has been shown to play a pivotal role in a variety of disease systems. However, there are relatively few studies on ischemic stroke.
