The angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) activity was measured in urine, serum, and tissues from rats with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced acute renal failure on days 1, 2, 3, and 7 after CCl4 administration. Serum ACE increased on days 1 to 3. Heart, lung, small intestine, brain, and testis ACE decreased, whereas kidney and liver ACE remained unchanged. Urine ACE activity increased from day 1 to day 3. Our data suggest that the increase in serum ACE may be secondary to the ACE release from the damaged tissues, and that the urine ACE increase may be due to the kidney proximal tubule damage. This work supports the contention that an increase in urine ACE may be an indicator of damage to the proximal tubule.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of varying levels of dietary protein on digestion, metabolism, serum biochemical indexes, and rumen microflora in Lanzhou fat-tailed sheep. A total of twenty 8-month-old healthy rams with an initial average body weight (BW 25.16 ± 1.

Hydrolysed proteins are of interest owing to their potential effects on metabolic and physiological responses, low allergenicity and high digestibility. This study aimed to evaluate the use of hydrolysed poultry byproduct meal (HPM) as a replacement for conventional poultry byproduct meal (PBM) as a protein source and to study its effects on serum cytokines, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity, serum antioxidant parameters, blood pressure, and urinary parameters in cats. The replacement of PBM with HPM was evaluated using five formulations with similar chemical compositions: control (PBM as the sole protein source) and the inclusion of 5%, 10%, 20%, and 30% HPM (on an as-fed basis).

In recent years, neonicotinoids (NEOs) as a new type of insecticide have been increasingly used worldwide, causing significant impacts on human health. This study collected urine samples from 1147 elderly individuals (including 714 in the control group and 433 in the hypertension group) in Shenzhen, China, and detected the concentrations of six types of NEOs and four metabolites of NEOs (mNEOs). The aim of this study is to investigate the association between NEOs exposure and hypertension and dyslipidemia.

Objective: To investigate the role of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the pathogenesis of acute kidney injury (AKI) after laparoscopic radical nephrectomy (LRN) and the predictive value of RAS activation status for AKI.
Methods: Eighty-two patients undergoing LRN at the Third Medical Center of General Hospital of PLA from December, 2023 to March, 2024 were enrolled, including 57 with postoperative AKI and 25 without AKI according to KDIGO criteria. Blood and urine samples were collected from the patients before and at 24 h after the operation for analyzing the correlation of urinary aldosterone, plasma ACE2, Ang1-7, Nrf-2, and IL-10 levels with postoperative AKI.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are very common and presently implicated in 9 out of 10 leading causes of death in the United States. Despite this fact, our mechanistic understanding of how ACEs impact health is limited. Moreover, interventions for reducing stress presently use a one-size-fits-all approach that involves no treatment tailoring or precision.
