Cu(2+) complexes of chelate ligands have been studied for their effect on oxidation of rat blood plasma lipids, sphingomyelin, lecithin by the method of chemoluminescence. The studied Cu(2+) complexes have been shown to possess pro-oxidant and antioxidant properties depending on their concentration. Antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol, ionol (2,6-di(tert)-butyl-4-methylphenol) and Cu(2+) complexes by the lipid oxidation has been compared.

The complex pollution and nutrient-poor characteristics of surface waters result in the limited ability of conventional reactors to remove pollutants. In this study, a novel modified ceramsite material, modified with trivalent iron (Fe(III)) and fulvic acid (FA) to form ceramsite@Fe(III)@FA (HC), was used for the first time as a biocarrier to immobilize strain Cupriavidus sp. W12, constructing a biofilter to enhance nitrate (NO-N) removal in micro-polluted water.

The management of wounds infected with drug-resistant bacteria represents a significant challenge to public health globally. Nanotechnology-functionalized photothermal hydrogel with good thermal stability, biocompatibility and tissue adhesion exhibits great potential in treating these infected wounds. Herein, a novel photothermal hydrogel (mCS-Cu-Ser) was prepared through in situ mineralization in the hydrogel networks and ion cross-linking driven by copper ions (∼3 mM).

A new rhodamine based turn on florescent probe ()-3',6'-bis(ethylamino)-2-(((6-methoxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinolin-3-yl)methylene)amino)-2',7'-dimethylspiro[isoindoline-1,9'-xanthen]-3-one (RME) was efficiently synthesized through a simple condensation reaction of 2-amino-3',6'-bis(ethylamino)-2',7'-dimethylspiro[isoindoline-1,9'-xanthen]-3-one and 6-methoxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinoline-3-carbaldehyde. The receptor RME is highly non-fluorescent and when copper ions (Cu ions) are added in DMF/water (1 : 2, v/v) medium, the receptor RME exhibits a specific "turn-on" colorimetric and fluorometric response. Moreover, RME binding with Cu ions produced a remarkable color variation that was perceptible to the human eye, changing from colorless to pink.

Soft tissue integration (STI) around dental implants determines their long-term success, and the key is to immediately construct a temporary soft tissue-like barrier to prevent bacterial invasion after implantation and then, promote STI. In response to this need, an injectable multi-crosslinked hydrogel (MCH) with abilities of self-healing, anti-swelling, degradability, and dry/wet adhesion to soft tissue/titanium is developed using gallic acid-graft-chitosan, oxidized sodium alginate, gelatin, and Cu with water and borax solution as solvents, whose properties can be controlled by adjusting its composition and ratio. MCH can not only immediately build a sealing barrier to block the bacterial invasion in the oral simulation environment but also deliver outstanding antibacterial efficacy through the synergism of trapping bacteria and releasing bactericidal agents such as chitosan, gallic acid, aldehyde, and Cu.

Hydrazine (NH) and hydrogen sulfide (HS) are environmental contaminants that adversely affect human health. Fluorescence-based detection methods for these analytes utilize their nucleophilicity and reducing ability. Therefore, fluorescent sensors capable of detecting and distinguishing hydrazine and HS are highly beneficial.
