The strategy for soft-tissue management following total joint arthroplasty begins with prevention. The medical status of the patient is optimized preoperatively. Meticulous surgical technique with liberalized indication for flap closure primarily will reduce soft-tissue failures. Early identification and aggressive team management of complications are critical to decrease long-term morbidity and to obtain a good functional result.

Periprosthetic joint infections (PJI), along with the extensive medical and surgical interventions required for treatment, impose a substantial psychological burden on patients. Given the need for patients to adapt to long-term physical limitations and ongoing medical challenges, this qualitative study aims to explore the nature of psychological coping amongst patients with chronic cases of PJI. A total of 18 patients (8 men and 10 women, aged 55 to 92) who underwent a total knee or hip arthroplasty revision due to chronic PJI were recruited at a single academic institution between August 2022 and July 2023.

The relationship between the socioeconomic status (SES) and PM exposure is rather inconclusive. We employed taxi-based measurements with 30 m resolution to characterize PM exposure with local source contribution (PM adjusted concentration) discerned for 2019 winter and 2020 summer, in Xi'an. A big data set comprising ∼6 × 10 hourly PM measurements and SES data from ∼5000 communities was utilized to examine the socioeconomic inequalities in community-level PM exposure.

Conversion TKA is affected by a higher risk of infection compared to primary TKA. The aims of this meta-analysis are i) to compare the infectious risk among patients undergoing TKA after a prior hardware implantation, evaluating removal vs maintenance of the hardware, and ii) within the removal group, to compare staged vs concurrent procedure.
