The Janus green photometric technique and the Mosmann's colorimetric MTT-assay to quantify corneal endothelial cytotoxicity were compared. Detergents, studied before by in vitro corneal perfusion, proved to be toxic at the 1% level in the Janus green assay with human corneas and at the 0.4% level in the MTT-assay with bovine endothelial cells. These results correlated well with earlier findings in vitro and in vivo. The use of human corneas reduced the ability of the Janus green photometric technique as a fast screening method because of the heterogeneity and restricted availability of this tissue. With the MTT-assay, large test series could be performed at the same time using cultured cells. Both assays are good tools to screen the cytotoxicity of chemicals and reduce the number of animals needed for endothelial cytotoxicity testing.

A dye mixture of Disperse red1 (DR1) and Janus green B (JGB) was prepared with different concentrations of the two dyes. The optical properties were studied for the two dyes and their mixtures in terms of the absorbance spectra. The direct optical energy gap in addition to the refractive index, extinction coefficient, dielectric constant and optical conductivity were estimated to the two dyes and their mixtures.

In this investigation, the photophysical properties and interaction mechanisms of Janus green blue (JGB) dye with polyanions were systematically studied using spectroscopic techniques. The absorption spectral analysis revealed that JGB binds cooperatively to sodium alginate, leading to dye stacking along the polymer chain. The interaction of JGB dye with DNA was characterized by the emergence of a metachromatic peak at 564 nm, indicating the formation of dye aggregates.

Uncovering the Dissociative Adsorption of the Leveler Janus Green B on Cu Electrodes at the Molecular Level.

The interfacial adsorption structure of an organic leveler decides its functionality in Cu interconnect electroplating and is yet far from clear. In this work, attenuated total reflection surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (ATR-SEIRAS) and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) in conjunction with density functional theory (DFT) calculations are applied to unravel the interfacial adsorption of the classic dye leveler Janus Green B (JGB) at a Cu electrode and understand its polarization property against Cu electrodeposition from an adsorption structure perspective. ATR-SEIRAS measurements and DFT calculations reveal that the N=N bond of the JGB molecule splits via reductive hydrogenation, forming two fragments of contrasting adsorption configurations.

Investigation of the efficacy of plant powder for Janus Green B dye removal from wastewater.

Int J Phytoremediation

September 2024

Department of Nature Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture & Natural Resources, Ardakan University, Ardakan, Iran.

The growth of industrial activities, has led to a significant increase in the influx of color pollutants into the environment. Phytoremediation can play a crucial role in enhancing wastewater quality. Accordingly, this study sought to evaluate the effectiveness of plant powder in removing Janus Green B (JGB) dye from aqueous solutions.

This work explores the effects of solvent polarity on Janus Green B (JGB) photophysical properties. The Lippert-Mataga, Billot, and Ravi equations were utilized to calculate the singlet-state excited dipole moments (µ) and ground state dipole moments (µ) using absorption and fluorescence spectra analyses. The results showed an increase in the former, which is suggestive of electronic structural alterations upon excitation.
