One hundred thirteen patients were randomized to receive either oral sodium phosphate (Fleet Phospho-Soda), lemon-flavored castor oil (Purge), or standard polyethylene glycol-based lavage solution (GoLYTELY) before elective colonoscopy. The study purpose was to confirm the efficacy of oral sodium phosphate and extend observations to include castor oil. Overall, patients reported that sodium phosphate and castor oil were easier to complete (p < 0.05). Scores for cleansing the entire colon as determined by endoscopists who were blinded to the cathartic agent were highest in patients receiving sodium phosphate (p < 0.02). Scores of left-colon cleansing for flexible sigmoidoscopy were equally high for the three methods. Scores for taste and symptom side effects were similar for each preparation. There were no recognized signs or symptoms of hypocalcemia in the sodium phosphate group. Because of the low cost of oral sodium phosphate combined with the lowest repeat endoscopy rate for inadequate cleansing, patient savings were projected to be $5000 per 100 patients at this center. Oral sodium phosphate is a cost-effective colonoscopy preparation that is better tolerated and more effective than the polyethylene glycol-electrolyte lavage solution or castor oil.

The sodium phosphate cotransporter-2A (NPT2A) mediates basal and parathyroid hormone (PTH)- and fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23)-regulated phosphate transport in proximal tubule cells of the kidney. Both basal and hormone-sensitive transport require sodium hydrogen exchanger regulatory factor-1 (NHERF1), a scaffold protein with tandem PDZ domains, PDZ1 and PDZ2. NPT2A binds to PDZ1.

Anisotropic carrier transport and deep-level defect of antimony selenosulfide (Sb(S,Se)) absorber are two vital auses restraining the photovoltaic performance of this emerging thin-film solar cell. Herein, chelate engineering is proposed to prepare high-quality Sb(S,Se) film based on hydrothermal deposition approach, which realizes desirable carrier transport and passivated defects by using tetrahedral PO ion in dibasic sodium phosphate (NaHPO, DSP). The PO Lewis structure, on one hand in the form of [(SbO)(PO)] chelate, can adsorb on the polar planes of cadmium sulfide (CdS) layer, promoting the heterogeneous nucleation, and on the other hand, the tetrahedral PO inhibits horizontal growth of (SbS(e)) ribbons due to size effects, thus achieving desirable [hk1] orientation.

This work pioneered an innovative visible light-powered, self-cascading peroxide antimicrobial packaging system (RPFe-CS), featuring a photodynamic enhancement effect achieved through the demand-oriented design of riboflavin sodium phosphate and Fe coordination complexes (RPFe) fillers with photodynamic and peroxidase activities, and the ingenious selection of slightly acidic chitosan (CS) film matrix. In this system, the photo-responsive properties of RPFe particles not only generate the •O, •OH, and O required for photodynamic sterilization, but also the produced HO serves as a necessary substrate for peroxidase to exert its bactericidal effect, endowing the packaging system with a "self-production and self-marketing" cascade process. The RPFe-CS film achieved efficient eradication to bacteria and fungi reaching up to 99.

Wheat is an important cereal crop globally and in the United States, and is the largest crop grown by acreage in Colorado. In June 2023, we observed wheat fields displaying severe yellowing and virus-like disease symptoms in plants across seven eastern Colorado counties (Yuma, Prowers, Kit Carson, Washington, Sedgewick, Morgan, and Weld). Symptomatic plants were prominent in fields and appeared bright yellow, with ringspots, mosaic patterning, and streaking on leaves.
