Guinea pigs were sensitized and boostered with i.p. injections of ovalbumin (OA) 10 micrograms + Al(OH)3 100 mg. Thirteen days after the last injection animals (800-1100 g) were placed in bias flow ventilated whole body plethysmographs and allowed to stabilize for 2 h. Lung function was recorded for up to 2 h before and 5 h after aeroallergen challenge (OA 20 mg/ml, 60 s, 20 psi) by a noninvasive pulmonary analyzer for unrestrained rodents. Aeroallergen challenge produced immediate dyspnea and gasping (peaking between 8 and 17 min). Gasping was associated with an increase in amplitude in the box pressure fluctuations (93%), and in the slope of the fluctuations (391%). Respiratory rate increased (103 to 175 breaths/min, 78%), the product of breathing rate times box pressure amplitude increased (161 to 432, 180%). Relaxation time (the time it takes the box pressure signal to drop from its peak to 1/3 of its peak value) declined (0.16 to 0.05 s, 72%). All of these lung dysfunction changes were highly significant (p < 0.001). Lung dysfunction persisted for 60 to 120 min after challenge. One of 8 animals tested died within 10 min. None of the animals exhibited late asthmatic responses during the 5 h post-challenge period. Based on these data we conclude that this technique allows quantitative analysis of dyspnea, gasping, and an abnormal pattern (waveform) of breathing.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

In situ X-ray reciprocal space mapping was performed during the interval heating and cooling of InGaN/GaN quantum wells (QWs) grown via metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE). Our detailed in situ X-ray analysis enabled us to track changes in the peak intensities and radial and angular broadenings of the reflection. By simulating the radial diffraction profiles recorded during the thermal cycle treatment, we demonstrate the presence of indium concentration distributions (ICDs) in the different QWs of the heterostructure (1.

The optimization of bioactive compound extraction from using ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) via sonotrode was investigated to maximize phenolic recovery and antioxidant activity while promoting a sustainable process. Optimal conditions (40% / ethanol in water, 38 min, 36% amplitude) were selected to maximize phenolic recovery while considering environmental and energy sustainability by optimizing extraction efficiency and minimizing solvent and energy usage. HPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS analysis tentatively identified 25 phenolic compounds, including sulfated phenolic acids, phlorotannins, flavonoids, and halophenols, with some reported for the first time in , underscoring the complexity of this alga's metabolome.

Preservation and shelf-life extension are of paramount importance for dried goji berry, especially those dehydrated using pulsed vacuum drying (PVD), which are generally applied for the high-quality dried products in the markets. This study compared the storage stability of dried goji berry dehydrated using PVD versus conventional hot wind drying (HWD), focusing on the complex interactions between packaging conditions and physicochemical compounds during accelerated storage. The results showed that PVD-dried goji berry exhibited higher browning degree (2.

The present study explored the influence of submerged fermentation with different lactic acid bacteria (LAB) as a pre-treatment of moringa leaves before the extraction of phenolic compounds via sonotrode. The sonotrode extraction was optimized using a Box-Behnken design and the optimal conditions found were: 25 % ethanol, 5 min and 100 % amplitude. Folin-reacting substances and antioxidant activity were measured on hydroalcoholic extracts obtained from fermented moringa leaves and, individual phenolic compounds were determined by HPLC-ESI-TOF-MS for the first time.

Using the RANS approach with the standard k-ω turbulence model, this study offers a novel investigation into the dynamic and thermal properties of turbulent impinging jet arrays. Our study examines the combined effect of the number of jets (N) and the jet-jet spacing (S) on flow mechanisms and heat transfer performance, which is unique compared to previous research that frequently focuses on the individual effects of parameters. Through the investigation of the turbulent kinetic energy, friction coefficient, velocity contours, streamlines, pressure contours, and local and mean Nusselt numbers, we provide important information about how these parameters impact flow dynamics.
