Systems of alcohol oxidation, malate-aspartate shunt, content of total and alpha-cholesterols in heart muscle and blood as well as morphometry of aorta were studied. The tissues investigated were obtained post mortem in lethal traumatic injury accompanied by increased content of ethanol in blood. The potentiating effect of alcoholization on atherogenesis was not found.

Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Yokohama City University School of Medicine, 3-9 Fukuura, Kanazawa-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa, 236-0004, Japan.

Background: Both quantitative and qualitative aspects of muscle status significantly impact clinical outcomes in critically ill patients. Comprehensive monitoring of baseline muscle status and its changes is crucial for risk stratification and management optimization. However, repeatable and accessible indicators are lacking.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) lacks a specific biomarker, but is defined by relatively selective toxicity to motor neurons (MN). As others have highlighted, this offers an opportunity to develop a sensitive and specific biomarker based on detection of DNA released from dying MN within accessible biofluids. Here we have performed whole genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS) of iPSC-derived MN from neurologically normal individuals.

Early-onset (EOCC) and late-onset cervical cancers (LOCC) represent two clinically distinct subtypes, each defined by unique clinical manifestations and therapeutic responses. However, their immunological profiles remain poorly explored. Herein, we analyzed single-cell transcriptomic data from 4 EOCC and 4 LOCC samples to compare their immune architectures.

Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2(SGLT-2) inhibitors are a newer class of antidiabetic drugs with the increased risk of euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis(EuDKA). Encephalopathy is a rare but life-threatening event of EuDKA. Due to paradoxically normal or slightly elevated serum glucose levels, it's easy to be mimicked by cerebral infarction, structural brain damage, thus leading to delayed diagnosis and causing seriously irreversible brain injury.

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the association between sarcopenia and liver fibrosis in patients aged 18-59 years with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and to assess the potential of sarcopenia as a risk factor for the progression of liver fibrosis.

Methods: The study included 821 patients with MASLD in the US cohort and 3,405 patients with MASLD in the Chinese cohort. Liver controlled attenuation parameters (CAP) and liver stiffness measurements (LSM) were assessed by vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE) to evaluate the extent of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis.
