Effects on Posture of a Two-Diopter Horizontal Prism Base Out on the Non-Dominant Eye.

J Clin Med

December 2024

Ophthalmology Unit, Department of Medicine, Surgery and Neuroscience, University of Siena, 53100 Siena, Italy.

: Ocular proprioception is implicated in balance control and heterophoria is associated with abnormal posture, though previous research focused mainly on the role of vertical phoria and the use of vertical prisms. This study aims to evaluate whether ocular misalignment and prismatic correction of horizontal phoria affect posture. : Sixty-nine ( = 69) young healthy subjects were included and equally divided by horizontal distance phoria: orthophoria ( = 23), esophoria ( = 23) and exophoria ( = 23).

Application of Pathomic Features for Differentiating Dysplastic Cells in Patients with Myelodysplastic Syndrome.

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, Hallym University College of Medicine, Seoul 07440, Republic of Korea.

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDSs) are a group of hematologic neoplasms accompanied by dysplasia of bone marrow (BM) hematopoietic cells with cytopenia. Recently, digitalized pathology and pathomics using computerized feature analysis have been actively researched for classifying and predicting prognosis in various tumors of hematopoietic tissues. This study analyzed the pathomic features of hematopoietic cells in BM aspiration smears of patients with MDS according to each hematopoietic cell lineage and dysplasia.

Salvage surgery for oesophageal cancer: The need for more intensive surveillance.

Eur J Surg Oncol

December 2024

Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - Medical University of Bahrain, Manama, Bahrain; Academic Department of Surgery, Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, Dublin, Ireland; Department of Surgery, Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, Ireland.

Background: There is currently no consensus on the role, method or frequency of surveillance following curative treatment of oesophageal cancer; re-investigation largely relying on symptom triggers which may delay detection of recurrence and impact survival. We hypothesised that intensive surveillance with endoscopy and imaging was more likely to detect recurrent or new cancer at a curable stage and this study examined the outcomes of this surveillance policy.

Patients And Methods: A prospective database of curatively treated oesophageal carcinoma patients was interrogated for patients with new or recurrent disease detected on surveillance and amenable to salvage surgery.

The role of non-invasive stress testing in the diagnosis of coronary microvascular disease.

Cardiovasc Revasc Med

December 2024

Department of Cardiology, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, affiliated with the School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Israel.

Background: Angina with non-obstructive coronary artery disease (ANOCA) is commonly observed in patients with stable angina undergoing coronary angiography. Current guidelines recommend non-invasive stress testing as the first step in diagnosing coronary microvascular disease (CMD). This study aims to evaluate the diagnostic value of non-invasive stress testing in patients invasively diagnosed with CMD.
