The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of some factors associated with occlusal tooth wear in a selected high-wear Swedish sample. The material comprised 59 persons having a mean age of 35 yr within the range 16-70 yr, the criteria for selection being a full or near-full complement of natural teeth, and the presence of definite clinical signs of occlusal wear. A dentition wear index, in addition to anterior, posterior, and arch subindices, was derived from a tooth-by-tooth evaluation of casts. Factors which were found to correlate significantly with increased occlusal wear were age, sex, self-perception of wear, number of teeth, and general health, as well as a number of variables from study-cast analysis. On the basis of the findings, not only is the multifactorial etiology of occlusal tooth wear a reality, but so, too, is the complex interdependence of these factors in the severity of wear.

Minimally Invasive Glass-Ceramic Restorations: Clinical and Patient-Reported Outcomes in Full-Mouth Rehabilitations.

J Dent

January 2025

Clinic of Reconstructive Dentistry, Center for Dental Medicine, University of Zurich, Plattenstrasse 11, CH-8032, Zurich, Switzerland.

Objectives: To evaluate clinical outcomes (restoration survival, technical and biological complications), and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) of full mouth rehabilitation with minimally invasive glass-ceramic restorations after up to 12 years of clinical service.

Materials And Methods: Twenty individuals (12 females, 8 males) received full-mouth rehabilitation with minimally invasive tooth-supported glass-ceramic restorations during the years 2009 - 2017 and agreed to participate in a follow-up visit. Full dental and periodontal examinations were completed, and the restorations were evaluated according to United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria.

This case report describes a complex full-step asymmetrical Class II division 1 high-angle in an adult patient treated by extraction of compromised first molars with a preadjusted lingual appliance. Since the patient presented severe sagittal and vertical discrepancies combined with an Izard orthofrontal profile with upper lip protrusion, an extraction camouflage was performed with the twofold aim of obtaining ideal occlusal relationship and profile improvement, correcting occlusal plane cant by selective intrusion with interradicular miniscrews. Appropriate biomechanical strategies, including extraction choice and anchorage control during space closure, were needed to achieve the planned results.

This research explores the types and effectiveness of occlusal splints in managing temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). TMDs encompass a range of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions affecting the jaw, causing pain, limited movement, and discomfort. Occlusal splints, also known as bite guards, are commonly used in dentistry to alleviate TMD symptoms by relaxing jaw muscles, preventing joint trauma, and protecting teeth.

Outcome of Er, Cr:YSGG laser and antioxidant pretreatments on bonding quality to caries-induced dentin.

BMC Oral Health

January 2025

Conservative Dentistry Department, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Future University, Cairo, Egypt.

Background: This study aimed to assess the influence of different pretreatment protocols and antioxidants application on the shear bond strength (SBS) of universal adhesive to sound (SoD) and caries-induced dentin (CID).

Methods: One hundred and twenty posterior teeth had their occlusal enamel removed, then the specimens were divided into two main groups according to dentin substrates; SoD and CID, three subgroups according to pretreatments protocols control (no pretreatment), NaOCl-treated, and Er, Cr:YSGG-treated and two divisions according to antioxidant application (with and without sodium ascorbate (SA) application). All-Bond Universal (ABU) universal adhesives was applied in self-etch (SE) mode then resin composite discs were built.
