Importance: Effective management of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and diabetic macular edema (DME) requires reliable patient follow-up to prevent disease progression.
Objective: To investigate the sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with being lost to follow-up (LTFU) among individuals with PDR or DME treated with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) intravitreal injections (IVIs) or panretinal photocoagulation (PRP).
Design, Setting, And Participants: This cohort study included a multicenter, retrospective review of patients with PDR or DME treated in Toronto, Canada, from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2021.

Four Lactiplantibacillus plantarum strains newly isolated and identified from human breast milk in Türkiye, have probiotic, functional and proliferative inhibition potential of metabolites against colon cancer cell lines were evaluated. In simulated gastric and intestinal media, all strains exhibited strong probiotic character by showing resistance, although decreasing with time and concentration. The strains were sensitive to penicillin G, rifampin and chloramphenicol and showed antibacterial effect on all pathogenic bacteria.

Background: Deer antler stem cells (AnSCs) exhibit properties of both embryonic and mesenchymal stem cells, with superior self-renewal and proliferation, which drive rapid antler growth and regeneration. AnSCs and their derived small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) hold promising potential for applications in regeneration medicine. Due to the restricted proliferative capacity inherent in primary cells, the production capacity of AnSCs and their sEVs are limited.

Recent investigations were shifted this trend toward exploring the biomedical applicability of CDs, relevant to chronic diseases. Herein, a systematic approach is demonstrated for studying the effect of variation in the surface passivation of CDs for tuning its optical character and biological performance. Alginate and pectin were successfully clustered oxygen-surface passivated CDs, while, chitin was used to nucleate nitrogen-surface passivated CDs.

Background: In tumors, somatic mutagenesis presumably drives the DNA damage response (DDR) via altered regulatory pathways, increasing genomic instability and proliferative activity. These considerations led to the standard therapeutic strategy against cancer: the disruption of mutation-activated DNA repair pathways of tumors.
Purpose: Justifying that cancer cells are not enemies to be killed, but rather that they are ill human cells which have the remnants of physiologic regulatory pathways.
