SAR distributions in interstitial microwave antenna arrays with a single dipole displacement.

Published: September 1993

The use of interstitial microwave antenna array hyperthermia (IMAAH) as a treatment for cancer, in conjunction with radiation therapy and chemotherapy, has been investigated widely. The heating pattern produced by a coherently phased 915 MHz asymmetric antenna array displays the maximum power deposition in the array center. This paper investigates the effect of variable insertion depth between antennas of an array on the heating patterns produced. The "study" of this heating behavior demonstrates a similar effect to that of the variably phased arrays, showing a shift of the heating peak towards the periphery of the tumor, offering a more simple method for the clinical treatment of such tumors.

Systematic Review of Image-guided Thermal Ablation for Treatment of High-Risk Patients with Stage I Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer.

Semin Thorac Cardiovasc Surg

Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. Pittsburgh, PA. Electronic address:

Image-guided thermal ablation (IGTA) applied to pulmonary pathology is an alternative to surgery in high-risk patients with stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Its application to lung neoplasm was first introduced in 2001 and has been implemented to treat metastatic disease to the lung or in select medically inoperable patients with peripheral stage I NSCLC. IGTA may also be an alternative to treat stage I NSCLC in non-operable patients with interstitial lung disease in whom a radiation modality is deemed too high risk.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on improving the performance of high energy density spinel LiNiMnO cathodes, which suffer from rapid capacity loss, by substituting magnesium for manganese to create LiNi0.5MgMnO using a microwave sol-gel method.
  • - X-ray diffraction analysis showed that magnesium substitution alters the interstitial sites in the spinel structure, leading to improved electrical performance, particularly with a 3% substitution (x = 0.03), which enhances rate performance and cycling stability.
  • - A higher substitution level (5%, x = 0.05) further boosts cycling performance, retaining 96% capacity after 500 cycles at high discharge rates, making it suitable for diverse applications and also indicating potential as

The treatment of endocrine problems like thyroid disease, diabetes mellitus (DM), and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) faces significant challenges so that medical professionals worldwide try to find a new therapeutic approach. However, along with common treatments which include medications, hormone replacement therapy, and surgery; there is a growing interest in alternative therapies like laser therapy, which offers a non-invasive and unique technique for treating endocrine disorders alone or in combination with traditional methods. The main goal of this review was to do a systematic review on the role of the laser and Microwave in the treatment endocrine disorders.

Topological Photonic Alloy.

We present the new concept of photonic alloy as a nonperiodic topological material. By mixing nonmagnetized and magnetized rods in a nonperiodic 2D photonic crystal configuration, we realized photonic alloys in the microwave regime. Our experimental findings reveal that the photonic alloy sustains nonreciprocal chiral edge states even at very low concentration of magnetized rods.

Atmospheric pressure microwave plasma can synthesize freestanding graphene in a few seconds at ambient conditions. Recent research has explored this method for the synthesis of graphene yet constrained by the utilization of toxic or non-renewable resources. This study aimed to substitute environmentally benign and sustainable precursors, synthesizing graphene from expired tangerine peel oil, an abundant natural source globally.
