Objectives: We developed an assay for delta-5-androstenediol (adiol) and delta-5-androstenediol-3-sulphate (adiol-3S) in serum and adiol and total adiol sulphate (adiol-S) in urine.
Design: An analytical procedure using HPLC and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry was devised and tested for its reliability.
Measurements: After addition of deuterated androstenediol as internal standard, serum and urine samples were extracted. Steroid sulphates were hydrolysed. The extracts and hydrolysates were purified on HPLC, adiol was derivatized using heptafluorobutyric anhydride and finally quantified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
Results: The assay is accurate and reproducible. The coefficient of variation (CV) for the determination of adiol in serum samples is 4% (intra-assay) and 9% (interassay) and for urine samples 3 and 8% respectively. The intra-assay CV for the adiol-3S analyses is 5% for serum and 2% for urine samples while the interassay CV values for adiol-3S are 10% for serum and 7% for urine samples. The recovery of adiol and adiol-3S from serum and urine samples is 97%.
Conclusions: The developed assay meets the analytical demands needed for clinical applications.

Metabolic-dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is the most common chronic liver disease in the Western world. MASLD-associated cirrhosis prevalence is on the rise along with the obesity and metabolic syndrome epidemic. Genetic factors are included in the multi-hit model of MASLD pathogenesis and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) has an important role.

Objective: The innate immune defense plays a pivotal role in protecting the urinary tract from uropathogenic invasion and maintaining immune homeostasis. Dysregulation of the innate immune system can result in recurrent urinary tract infections (RUTI) due to heightened susceptibility to uropathogens. Despite this, predicting the risk of recurrence and the degree of immune compromise in patients who have had one urinary tract infection remains challenging.

Objective: Physical activity (PA) has been generally recognised as beneficial for health. The effect of a change in PA on kidney biomarkers in healthy individuals without kidney disease remains unclear. This manuscript synthesised the evidence of the association of changes in PA with kidney biomarkers in the general population free from kidney disease.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The Chinese herbal Plantaginis Herba (PL) is one of the most widely used plants for both medicinal and dietary purposes. Plantaginis Herba is the main medicine used in a traditional Chinese prescription called Cheqiancao decoction, and it is known for its liver and kidney protective properties.
Aim Of The Study: The aim of the present study was to explore the interventions and mechanisms of PL in ADR nephropathy by performing an integrated analysis of in vitro and in vivo experiments.

Background: IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is a leading cause of renal failure, but its pathogenesis remains unclear, complicating diagnosis and treatment. The invasive nature of renal biopsy highlights the need for non-invasive diagnostic biomarkers. Bulk RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) of urine offers a promising approach for identifying molecular changes relevant to IgAN.
