Quantitative measurements were made on cross-sectional preparations of the distal part of the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) from nine young mixed-breed horses to establish reference values for the total number of myelinated fibres, mean fibre diameter and percentage of thickest fibres (over 9.5 microns) and to delineate diameter distribution curves. The total number of myelinated fibres, mean fibre diameter and percentage of thickest fibres for the left RLN were significantly lower than those of the right RLN (P < 0.005). The distribution of fibres was unimodal. The fibre diameter ranged from 1 micron to 17 microns. Approximately, 95 per cent of fibres had a diameter larger than 5 microns.

Background: The histological hallmark of male androgenetic alopecia (MAGA) is transformation of terminal follicles into miniaturized secondary-vellus follicles. As the volume of the dermal papilla determines the size of the hair bulb and hair fibre diameter, any treatment induced increase in fibre diameter could be used as a proxy for reversal of hair follicle miniaturization. While clinical trials with minoxidil topical solution in MAGA do not demonstrate increased fibre diameter, vellus-to-terminal reconversion is shown in a humanized mouse model treated with MXL.

Background: Myoblasts serve as the fundamental building blocks of muscle fibers, and there is a positive correlation between the diameter of myofibers during the juvenile phase and the rate of muscle growth, which does not change in adulthood. However, the molecular mechanisms governing myofiber diameter across various developmental stages in goats remain largely unclear.
Results: In this study, we examined miRNA expression in the longissimus dorsi muscle tissue of goats at two distinct ages: one month, a period characterized by robust muscle growth, and nine months, when muscle development plateaus in adulthood.
