Radioprotective effectiveness has been evaluated by 30 day survival studies and protection to bone-marrow cells in mice after radiation exposure and this has been further established by 24 hr deoxycytidine excretion in urine of rats following 5 Gy whole body gamma irradiation and protection to superoxide dismutase enzyme in marrow cells and red blood corpuscles. Radioprotective effectiveness as well as the duration of radioprotection have been improved by the administration (ip) of hydroxylamine (20 mg/kg), a decarboxylase inhibitor, prior to the use of a combination of 5-hydroxy L-tryptophan (5-HTP, 70 mg/kg) and 2-aminoethylisothiuronium bromide hydrobromide (AET, 20 mg/kg) ip in small mammals before whole body gamma irradiation.

Since corrosion causes significant harm to the environment and economy, sustainable corrosion inhibitors are essential. This study set out to examine Anti-corrosion ability of a number of closely related polycyclic compounds of flavone derivatives, namely 5,7-dimethoxyflavone (1), 4',5,7-trimethoxyflavone (2), 3',4',5'-trimethoxyflavone (3), 5-hydroxy-3,3',4',7-tetramethoxyflavone (4), tangeretin (5), 3,3',4',5,6,7,8-heptamethoxyflavone (6), 3',5,7-trihydroxy-4',5',6-trimethoxyflavone (7) and 3',4',5,7-tetrahydroxy-3,6,8-trimethoxyflavone (8), using the DFT/B3LYP/6-311 + + G(d, p) basis set. Monte Carlo simulations were used to reveal the adsorption of the investigated compounds on the Cu(111) surface.

Iron is essential for the formation, maturation and dispersal of bacterial biofilms, playing a crucial role in the physiological and metabolic functions of bacteria as well as in the regulation of virulence. Limited availability of iron can impair the formation of robust biofilms by altering cellular motility, hydrophobicity and protein composition of the bacterial surface. In this study, the antibiofilm activity of two natural iron chelating agents, kojic acid (5-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethyl-4H-pyran-4-one) and maltol (3-hydroxy-2-methyl-4-pyrone), were investigated against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Ninety-Day Subchronic Toxicology of Individual and Combined Toxicants from the Thermal Processing of Lipid-Rich Foods.

J Agric Food Chem

December 2024

Department of Nutrition and Food Science, University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland 20742, United States.

Oxidative derivatives of triacylglycerols (ox-TGs), aldehydes, and 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol esters (3-MCPDE) were simultaneously evaluated in a 90-day subchronic study, focusing on biological indicators, biochemical indicators, and serum metabolomics as the first part of integrated toxicity and interactions. After 90 days of feeding Kunming mice, coexposure to combined toxicants significantly inhibited the trend of liver weight gain, reduced the levels of total bilirubin (TBIL) and direct bilirubin (DBIL), and decreased uric acid (UA) compared to individual toxicant exposure. A total of 21 and 31 biomarkers in female and male mice were identified, respectively.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to compare the 3-year continuation rate and discontinuation factors between vibegron and mirabegron in patients with overactive bladder in a rehabilitation hospital in Japan.

Methods: The 3-year continuation rate of the target drugs and reasons for discontinuation as well as patients' backgrounds and adverse effects were evaluated retrospectively from the medical records between September 2018 and December 2020. After selecting patients according to our inclusion and exclusion criteria, 136 cases taking mirabegron and 82 taking vibegron were adjusted for intergroup variability by propensity score matching.
