Background: Antibiomania is the manifestation of manic symptoms secondary to taking an antibiotic, which is a rare side effect. In these cases, the antibiotics most often incriminated are macrolides and quinolones, but to our knowledge, there are no published cases of antibiomania secondary to cotrimoxazole. Furthermore, we also provide an update of pharmacovigilance data concerning antibiomania through a search of the World Health Organization (WHO) database.

Bipolar disorder (BD) is a central nervous system condition that is typified by fluctuations in mood, oscillating between depressive and manic, and/or hypomanic episodes. The objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that strength training may act as a potent protector against behavioral and neurochemical changes induced by BD. A strength training protocol was performed with adult male Wistar rats, and seven days following the conclusion of training, a single ouabain injection was administered.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) effectively treats severe psychiatric disorders such as depression, mania, catatonia, and schizophrenia. Although its exact mechanism remains unclear, ECT is thought to induce neurochemical and neuroendocrine changes. Positron emission tomography (PET) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) have provided vital insights into ECT's neurobiological effects.

Leather waste contains up to 10% nitrogen (N); thus, combustion or gasification only for the energy recovery would not be rational, if safety standards are met. On the other hand, the chromium (Cr) content exceeding 5% in half of the waste stream (/) is too significant to be applied in agriculture. In this work, four acid hydrolysates from leather waste shavings, both wet-white free of Cr and wet-blue with Cr, were used: two with a mixture of acids and supplemented with Cu, Mn, and Zn, and the other two as semi-products from collagen extraction using hydrochloric acid.

November 2024

Inova Behavioral Health Services, Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, Falls Church, VA.

Background: Catatonia is a frequently missed diagnosis on medical wards, delaying effective treatment or permitting accidental use of neuroleptics that can exacerbate the condition. Thyroid storm has rarely been associated with catatonia in case reports, with no prior reviews synthesizing this research.

Objective: We present a case of catatonia during thyroid storm following administration of low-dose haloperidol, followed by a review of previously published cases and discussion of their common factors and potential mechanisms.
