MR angiography has many applications in the evaluation of cerebrovascular disease (aneurysm, vascular malformation, neoplasm, arterial and venous occlusive disease) [1]. Of these, the most common application may be in the assessment of arterial occlusive disease in patients at risk for stroke [2]. Consequently, the accuracy of MR angiography vs conventional angiography in this assessment will most likely determine the extent to which MR angiography is routinely used in clinical practice. In this paper, we review the results of clinical trials in which MR angiography has been used to evaluate arterial occlusive disease in the head and neck and describe those recent developments that promise improved visualization of the vasculature.

Pharmacologic beta-blockade is a well-established therapy for reducing adverse effects from sympathetic overactivity in cardiovascular diseases, such as heart failure. Despite decades of research efforts, in vivo cardiac functional studies utilizing genetic animal models remain scant. We generated a mouse model of cardiomyocyte-specific deletion of beta-1 adrenergic receptor (ADRB1) , the primary subtype expressed in cardiac myocytes, and demonstrated the role for ADRB1 in the maintenance of cardiac function at baseline and during exposure to increase in cardiac afterload by transient aortic occlusion and increasing heart rates (HRs) via atrial pacing.

Background: This video article describes the use of bone-anchored prostheses for patients with transtibial amputations, most often resulting from trauma, infection, or dysvascular disease. Large studies have shown that about half of all patients with a socket-suspended artificial limb experience limited mobility and limited prosthesis use because of socket-related problems. These problems occur at the socket-residual limb interface as a result of a painful and unstable connection, leading to an asymmetrical gait and subsequent pelvic and back pain.

Background: The atrial switch procedure is accompanied by a very high rate of sinus node dysfunction. Baffle stenosis is a common problem with transvenous pacemaker leads in this scenario.

Case Summary: We present a first-in-human case of a leadless pacer (LP) in the left atrium in a patient with prior atrial switch for transposition and sinus node dysfunction complicated by multiple abandoned leads, superior baffle occlusion, and failed extraction.
