Both hepatic ischemia and chemotherapy are effective in the treatment of carcinoid liver metastases, but their effectiveness is often limited, partial and transient. It has been shown that, during intermittent occlusion of the hepatic artery with a surgically implanted occluder, no revascularisation from collaterals occurs. We studied the feasibility, the side-effects, the response to tumour measurements and hormonal excretions of a combined treatment of repeated hepatic ischemia and 5-Fluorouracil and Streptozotocin-administration in carcinoid liver metastases.

Angelica gigas Nakai (AGN) root is a medicinal herbal widely used in traditional medicine in Korea. AGN root ethanolic extracts have been marketed as dietary supplements in the United States for memory health and pain management. We have recently reviewed the pharmacokinetics (PK) and first-pass hepatic metabolism of ingested AGN supplements in humans for the signature pyranocoumarins decursin (D, C 1x), decursinol angelate (DA, C ~ 10x) and their common botanical precursor and hepatic metabolite decursinol (DOH, C ~ 1000x).

Background & Aims: The incidence of graft fibrosis is elevated following pediatric liver transplantation (pLT) and is influenced by cold ischemic time (CIT). Myosin light chain 9 (MYL9), a member of the myosin family, could act on hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) and induce a transition to active phase. We hypothesized that cold ischemic injury could stimulate MYL9 expression and lead to graft fibrosis.

The development of inhaled anesthetics (IAs) has a rich history dating back many centuries. In modern times they have played a pivotal role in anesthesia and critical care by allowing deep sedation during periods of critical illness and surgery. In addition to their sedating effects, they have many systemic effects allowing for therapy beyond surgical anesthesia.

Using autologous orthotopic liver transplantation (AOLT) model in rats, the effect of lipid reactive oxygen species (L-ROS) inhibitor Ferrostain-1 on ferroptosis signal pathway was observed to determine whether ferroptosis occurred in rat liver injury after cold ischemia-reperfusion (I/R). Thirty-two healthy adult SPF male SD rats, 8 ~ 10 weeks old, weight 240 ~ 260 g, were divided into four groups by the method of random number table (n = 8): sham group, I/R group, I/R + Fer-1 group, I/R + DFO group. In the I/R + Fer-1 group, ferristatin-1(5 mg /kg) was intraperitoneally injected 30 min before surgery; in the I/R + DFO group, DFO 100 mg/kg was injected intraperitoneally 1 h before operation and 12 h after operation.

Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury is an unavoidable surgical complication of liver transplantation and the leading cause of poor graft function and increased mortality post-transplantation. Multiple mechanisms have been implicated in ischemia-reperfusion injury; however, the characteristic changes at the transcriptional and metabolic levels in the early, intermediate, and late phases of ischemia-reperfusion injury remain unclear. In the study, mice underwent laparotomy following anesthesia, and the blood vessels of the liver were clipped using a vascular clamp to form 70% warm ischemia of the liver.
