An analysis was carried out of 362 infants with urinary system infections (USI) hospitalized in the years 1987-91. Using USG and X-ray examinations abnormalities were found in 90 cases (24.9%), half of which were vesicoureteral refluxes. Of interest was the correlation of USI in the infants with such things as: weight deficiency (896 cases--26.5%), diarrhoea (130 cases--35.9%), malabsorption syndrome (20 cases--5.5%). Effective treatment of USI caused simultaneously a regression of gastrointestinal sings which indicated the aetiological and pathogenetic correlation between these two facts.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Evidence on health system challenges mostly relate to high-income countries. Lack of context-specific knowledge, educational opportunities, and access to resources among pelvic health care providers could be barriers to effective implementation of pelvic health services in South Africa. The aim of this study was to determine the patient and therapist profile, and the educational and resource needs of pelvic health physiotherapists in South Africa.

Background: Bladder cancer is one of the most common malignancies of the urinary system. Despite significant advances in diagnosis and treatment, the compromised therapeutic effect of chemotherapeutic agents, such as Oxaliplatin (OXA), remains a major clinical challenge. Thus, a combination therapy is required to enhance the OXA's therapeutic effectiveness and improve patient outcomes.

Association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations and urinary vitamin D metabolite concentrations measured by the NLucVDR assay.

It is well known that vitamin D is essential for human health; however, many people suffer from vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency worldwide, including in Japan. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentrations are typically measured to evaluate vitamin D status. In a previous study, we demonstrated that the concentrations of vitamin D metabolites in urine, measured using the NLucVDR assay system composed of a split-type nanoluciferase and the ligand-binding domain (LBD) of the human vitamin D receptor, correlated with serum 25(OH)D concentrations measured using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) or electrochemiluminescence immunoassays (ECLIAs).

Factors Influencing Success in Endoscopic Treatment of Grade 4-5 Primary Vesicoureteric Reflux (VUR) in Infancy and Childhood.

Introduction: There is equipoise among pediatric urologists regarding endoscopic versus surgical intervention for symptomatic Grade 4-5 Vesicoureteric Reflux (VUR), particularly in infancy. Our aim was to assess outcomes of first-line endoscopic treatment in all cases of symptomatic Grade 4-5 VUR and we hypothesised that using endoscopic Dx/HA as first line management for primary VUR would obviate the need for ureteric reimplantation in the majority of cases.

Methods: Retrospective single-surgeon analysis of consecutive patients with primary Grade 4-5 VUR over 15 years.
