Prevalence of human herpesvirus 6 in Thai people and its correlation with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 infection.

Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) is a human herpesvirus isolated from patients with various lymphoproliferative disorders and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The prevalence of HHV-6 infection and its correlation as a cofactor in pathogenicity of HIV infection was investigated in serum samples from 365 healthy volunteers at various age groups, 50 persons at risk for HIV-1 infection, and 90 HIV-1 seropositive individuals. Sera were screened and titrated for antibodies against HHV-6 by a standard indirect immunofluorescence assay on an acetone fixed HHV-6 infected HSB2 cells. The data show high prevalence of HHV-6 in Thailand (71.7%) and the infection is acquired early in life. Prevalence of anti-HHV-6 IgG antibodies was not strikingly different among people at risk for HIV infection, asymptomatic HIV-1 infected cases, and aged-matched controls with low risk for HIV-1 infection. The AIDS cases showed high titers of anti-HHV-6 IgG antibody and high rates for presence of anti-HHV-6 IgM antibody (33.3%) which suggests higher prevalence of HHV-6 infection by either reactivation of an earlier HHV-6 infection or a new primary infection.

IKKε is a traditional antiviral kinase known for positively regulating the production of type I interferon (IFN) and the expression of IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs) during various virus infections. However, through an inhibitor screen targeting cellular kinases, we found that IKKε plays a crucial role in the lytic replication of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV). Mechanistically, during KSHV lytic replication, IKKε undergoes significant SUMOylation at both Lys321 and Lys549 by the viral SUMO E3 ligase ORF45.

Epstein-Barr virus (+) mucocutaneous ulcer (EBVMCU) is an uncommon benign lymphoproliferative lesion that develops in immunocompromised patients. We present a special case of EBVMCU located in the peri-implant mucosa and we review the oral cases published to date. Objective: This review aims to consolidate available evidence, identify research gaps, and advocate for a more informed approach to the management of pityriasis rosea in pregnant individuals.

Data Sources: PubMed, Web of Science, and Directory of Open Access Journals were systematically searched based on the keywords "pityriasis rosea," "pityriasis circinate," "roseola annulate," "herpes tonsurans maculosus," "herald patch," and "pregnancy" on January 25, 2024 for publications between 1950 to 2024.

Study Selection: Studies containing outcomes data for pregnant patients with established PR were included.

Objectives: Given the ongoing challenges regarding the specific roles of viral infections in cancer etiology, or as cancer co-morbidities, this study assessed potential associations between anti-viral, T-cell receptor (TCR) complementarity domain region-3 (CDR3s), and clinical outcomes for ovarian cancer.

Methods: TCR CDR3s were isolated from ovarian cancer specimens for a determination of which patients had anti-viral CDR3s and whether those patients had better or worse outcomes.

Results: Analyses revealed that patients with exact matches of anti-Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) CDR3 amino acid sequences exhibited better outcomes for both overall and disease-specific survival.
