Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are evolutionarily conserved enzymes crucial for cell detoxication. They are viewed as having evolved in cyanobacteria, the ancient photosynthetic prokaryotes that colonize our planet and play a crucial role for its biosphere. Xi-class GSTs, characterized by their specific glutathionyl-hydroquinone reductase activity, have been observed in prokaryotes, fungi and plants, but have not yet been studied in cyanobacteria.

Hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid (HFPO-DA), an emerging perfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) that is replacing traditional PFASs, has a wide range of industrial applications and has been detected globally in the environment. However, it remains unclear whether HFPO-DA, is genuinely less toxic than perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in terms of soil environmental hazards. Therefore, this study aimed to compare differences in toxicity between PFOA and its substitute, HFPO-DA, in a common species of earthworm, Eisenia fetida.

Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) of affect, cognition and behavior aims to provide a 'window into a person's daily life'. But what should we look for through this window? In this paper, we compare a statistical perspective, grounded in probability theory, with a dynamic pattern perspective, grounded in complexity theory, on two common phenomena in EMA data: non-stationarity and outlying values. From a statistical perspective, these phenomena are considered nuisances that should be dealt with.

Background: Teaching is a genuinely social and highly demanding task. Drawing on Porges' phylogenetic polyvagal theory with three evolved systems and three associated behavioral responses (social engagement, mobilization, and immobilization), we investigated teachers' heart rate and heart rate variability in social interactions using ambulatory assessments.
Methods: We continuously measured heart rate and heart rate variability of 42 apparently healthy teachers on a work and leisure day with ambulatory electrocardiogram.

Purpose: This study aims to improve our understanding of how communicative interaction is perceived by experienced rehabilitation staff working with patients with Disorders of Consciousness (DoC) and Posttraumatic Amnesia (PTA).
Method: This qualitative study involved five workshops guided by modified Nominal Group Technique with 22 professionals from six disciplines. Reflexive thematic analysis was employed for analysis.
