The existence of catharreal respiratory symptoms (such as pharyngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis etc.) is established as the usual manifestation of "exanthema subitum" due to acute human herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6) infection. But so far pneumonia, purulent sinusitis, purulent otitis media and/or acute obstructive bronchitis (bronchiolitis) in infants and children have not been described. Here we report the results of observations of 2 children with bronchopneumonia/sinusitis maxillaris and severe bronchiolitis associated with an acute HHV-6 infection. Other respiratory viruses were excluded as agents causing the ARD.

Background: Colonic stenosis in Crohn's disease (CD) is uncommon, and data on surgery-free survival are limited. This study aimed to determine surgery-free survival rates and identify associated factors.
Patients And Methods: A retrospective study was conducted from 2003 to 2022, including patients with CD complicated by colonic stenosis.

Intestinal fibrosis, as a late-stage complication of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), leads to bowel obstruction and requires surgical intervention, significantly lowering the quality of life of affected patients. SAA3, a highly conserved member of the serum amyloid A (SAA) apolipoprotein family in mice, is synthesized primarily as an acute phase reactant in response to infection, inflammation and trauma. An increasing number of evidence suggests that SAA3 exerts a vital role in the fibrotic process, even though the underlying mechanisms are not yet fully comprehended.

Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is pulmonary hypertension secondary to chronic obstruction of pulmonary arteries by organized thromboemboli. Echocardiography and Echocardiography and ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) scan are the initial screening examinations for CTEPH; the diagnosis is often missed on computed tomography (CT). Imaging findings of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary disease overlap with those of acute pulmonary embolism, and radiologists should evaluate for the presence of concurrent chronic disease in all cases of acute pulmonary embolism detected on CT pulmonary angiography.

While internal hernias are rare in the paediatric population, it should be considered as a cause for an acute abdomen following blunt trauma. Internal hernias represent a surgical emergency that requires prompt recognition due to the high risk of strangulation and ischaemia of affected bowel loops. The case of a transomental hernia (TOH) is described in a young girl.

Objective: Frailty has become an increasingly recognized perioperative risk stratification tool. While frailty has been strongly correlated with worsening surgical outcomes, the individual determinants of frailty have rarely been investigated in the setting of aortic disease. The aim of this study was to examine the determinants of an 11-factor modified frailty index (mFI-11) on mortality and postoperative complications in patients undergoing endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR).
