A removable ocular microdialysis system for measuring vitreous biogenic amines.

A microdialysis system with a removable probe and a fixed scleral entry port is presented. The probe can be inserted several times with minimal trauma, permitting repeated sampling in one animal. The functioning of the setup is illustrated by the measurement of dopamine, dihydroxyphenyl acetic acid, and noradrenaline in the vitreous of healthy rabbits under physiological conditions.

Borneolum (BO) is an effectiveness adjuvant in facilitating the transportation of central nervous system drugs to the brain by opening the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Citalopram hydrobromide (CIT-HBr), a widely prescribed serotonin (5-HT) reuptake inhibitor, restricts the efficacy due to the BBB, resulting in slow onset and systemic side effects. Enhancing CIT-HBr's efficacy through BO appears to be a promising approach.

Cortisol is released upon activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, varies across the day, possesses an underlying diurnal rhythm and is responsive to stressors. The endogenous circadian peak of cortisol occurs in the morning, and increases in cortisol observed post-awakening have been named the cortisol awakening response (CAR) based on the belief that the act of waking up stimulates cortisol secretion.
