We have recently developed a procedure to label liposomes containing reduced glutathione (GSH) with 99mTc using the lipophilic chelator, hexamethylpropyleneamine oxime (HMPAO). In the present study, we evaluated the use of 99mTc-liposomes to detect focal infection sites in rats. Rats were infected in the thigh by intramuscular injection with Staphylococcus aureus followed 24 hr later by an intravenous injection of 99mTc-liposomes, 67Ga-citrate, or 99mTc-human serum albumin (HSA). The animals were imaged under a gamma camera and subsequently killed at 4, 24 or 48 hr for tissue biodistribution studies. In contrast to infected rats receiving 67Ga-citrate or 99mTc-HSA, abscesses were prominently localized within 2 hr in rats after 99mTc-liposome injection, and continued to increase in activity up to 24 hr. Abscess-to-muscle ratios calculated from 24-hr biodistribution data obtained from tissue sampling were 35.3 +/- 7.6 for 99mTc-liposomes, 4.1 +/- 0.7 for 67Ga-citrate and 8.0 +/- 1.0 for 99mTc-HSA. These studies show the potential of using 99mTc-liposomes to localize infection.

Unlabelled: Pathogenic strains cause cholera using different mechanisms. O1 and O139 serogroup strains use the toxin-co-regulated pilus (TCP) and cholera toxin (CT) for intestinal colonization and to promote secretory diarrhea, while non-O1/non-O139 serogroup strains are typically non-toxigenic and use alternate virulence factors to cause a clinically similar disease. An O39 serogroup, TCP/CT-negative strain, named AM-19226, uses a type III secretion system (T3SS) to translocate more than 10 effector proteins into the host cell cytosol.

Several entomological studies have been conducted to describe malaria transmission in different eco-epidemiological settings in Cameroon; knowledge gaps persist, particularly in highland areas. This study aimed to characterize malaria vectors in three localities along an altitudinal gradient in the western region: Santchou (700 m), Dschang (1400 m), and Penka Michel (1500 m).

Objective: Pulmonary involvement in chronic nonbacterial osteomyelitis (CNO) is rare. Limited awareness results in diagnostic challenges, especially because malignancy or infection needs to be considered.
Methods: Based on a survey shared among centers participating in the Kerndokumentation Deutsches Rheumaforschungszentrum (Germany), this study investigated clinical and imaging presentations, demographic features, treatment response and outcomes of pulmonary involvement in CNO (pCNO).
Although granulomatous interstitial nephritis (GIN) is a rare histological finding in kidney transplants, the joint occurrence of GIN and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) has not, to our knowledge, been reported in the literature. We report a case of GIN and de novo FSGS in kidney transplant recipients leading to allograft failure. A 69-year-old male with a history of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) of unknown etiology, as well as liver failure from hepatitis B and C co-infection, initially had a living unrelated kidney transplant (LURT) in 2007 and subsequently received both liver and kidney transplants (SLKTs) in 2017.

: Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a pattern of kidney injury with diverse causes and pathogeneses, resulting in podocyte injury and depletion. It can be classified as primary, genetic, or secondary. Because FSGS classically has a worse prognosis in patients with nephrotic syndrome, most studies have focused on the treatment and evolution of these patients, resulting in a lack of data related to patients without nephrotic syndrome.
