Melatonin (Mel) is known for various biological function, such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capabilities, as well as its ability to modulate immune responses, which can protect mitochondria and improve the prognosis of sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI). However, there is a multitude of theories regarding how Mel exerts its immune-modulating functions, with no consensus reached as of yet. We propose the protective effects of Mel on mitochondria are closely related to the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)-stimulator of interferon genes (STING) signaling pathway in the immune-inflammatory response.

Fine particulate matter (PM), an atmospheric pollutant that settles deep in the respiratory tract, is highly harmful to human health. Despite its well-known impact on lung function and its ability to exacerbate asthma, the molecular basis of this effect is not fully understood. This integrated transcriptomic and epigenomic data analysis from publicly available datasets aimed to determine the impact of PM exposure and its association with asthma in human airway epithelial cells.

Immunoglobulin (Ig) E is a key mediator in the induction and maintenance of allergic inflammation, characterized by a Th2-dominated immune response. Recently epidemiological studies have showed that elevated serum total IgE levels or an increased abundance of mast cells (MCs) at the lesion site are observed in psoriatic patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD), such as atherosclerosis. Although the underlying mechanisms by which IgE synergizing with MCs in promoting these chronic immune-inflammatory diseases remain unclear, the interleukin (IL)-23/IL-17 axis appears to play a crucial role in comorbidity of psoriasis and atherosclerosis.

Pyroptosis is a key mode of programmed cell death during the early stages following acute myocardial infarction (AMI), driving immune-inflammatory responses. Cardiac resident macrophages (CRMs) are the primary mediators of cardiac immunity, and they serve a dual role through their shaping of both myocardial injury and post-AMI myocardial repair. To appropriately regulate AMI-associated inflammation, HM4oRL is herein designed, an innovative bifunctional therapeutic nanoplatform capable of inhibiting cardiomyocyte pyroptosis while reprogramming inflammatory signaling.

Introduction: Yeast beta-glucan (YBG) are recognised for enhancing the immune system by activating macrophages, a key defence mechanism. Given the global prevalence and impact of upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) on productivity and healthcare costs, YBG has shown promise as a potential therapeutic and preventive strategy for recurrent respiratory tract infections. However, little is known regarding the efficacy of YBG at lower dosages in relation to URTI, fatigue, immune response and uncertainties of how they affect the gut microbiota composition.
