It is revealed that children 7-9 years old lack a correlation between properties of principal nervous processes and properties of attention. Such connection appears only in age of 9-10. Development of properties of principal nervous processes as well as of attention in early ontogenesis is characterized by their quick growth.

Background: Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is a complex form of dysautonomia that presents with abnormal autonomic reflexes upon standing, leading to symptoms such as lightheadedness, tachycardia, fatigue, and cognitive impairment. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought renewed attention to POTS due to its overlap with post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC). Studies have found that a substantial percentage of COVID-19 survivors exhibit symptoms resembling POTS, elevating POTS diagnoses to previously unseen levels.

Mitochondria-Associated Endoplasmic Reticulum Membranes in Microglia: One Contact Site to Rule Them all.

Contact (Thousand Oaks)

January 2025

Department of Biomedicine, Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas Margarita Salas, CSIC, 28040 Madrid, Spain.

Microglia, the resident immune cells of the central nervous system (CNS), play a crucial role in maintaining tissue homeostasis by monitoring and responding to environmental changes through processes such as phagocytosis, cytokine production or synapse remodeling. Their dynamic nature and diverse functions are supported by the regulation of multiple metabolic pathways, enabling microglia to efficiently adapt to fluctuating signals. A key aspect of this regulation occurs at mitochondria-associated ER membranes (MAM), specialized contact sites between the ER and mitochondria.

Transcriptomics and psychotherapy: An integrative review.

Brain Behav Immun Health

December 2024

Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology, Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA, USA.

Gold-standard psychotherapies like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) show beneficial effects, but patient responses vary, indicating a need to predict and optimize treatment efficacy. Gene expression analysis may offer insights into the interplay between psychosocial processes and biological factors that impact psychopathology and therapeutic response. This integrative review examines 17 studies that assess gene expression in the context of psychotherapy, highlighting innovative frameworks for incorporating gene expression analysis in diagnosis, predicting treatment response, and monitoring treatment progress.

The vagus nerve (VN) is the primary parasympathetic nerve, providing two-way communication between the body and brain through a network of afferent and efferent fibers. Evidence suggests that altered VN signaling is linked to changes in the neuroimmune system, including microglia. Dysfunction of microglia, the resident innate immune cells of the brain, is associated with various neurodevelopmental disorders, including schizophrenia, attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and epilepsy.

Previous research has suggested that individual characteristics, such as personality traits, are crucial for pro-environmental behaviors. However, the joint role of more specific environment-related individual dispositions on various pro-environmental behaviors has not yet been investigated and is the aim of this study. A total of 649 adults (18-59 years old) assessed their pro-environmental behaviors, personality traits, the connectedness to nature, attitudes toward exploration, and spatial anxiety.
