Objective: To investigate the role that foot-strike hemolysis plays in sports-related anemia in marathon and ultramarathon runners.
Data Sources: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, Grey literature.
Study Selection: Inclusion criteria consisted of human studies with runners completing a sanctioned race of marathon distance or greater, with outcomes measured by pre- and post-race hematological assessments.

The therapeutic window of antibody drug-conjugates (ADC) remains challenging due to safety issues such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) observed with specific deruxtecan-based ADCs. To avoid ILD, we designed M9140 by conjugating the maleimide-containing hydrophilic β-glucuronide linker to exatecan and our anti-CEACAM5 (CarcinoEmbryonic Antigen-related Cell Adhesion Molecule 5) specific antibody. Following repeated iv-infusion at 3 to 30 mg/kg of M9140 every 3 weeks, the pathological findings obtained in cynomolgus monkeys were confined to gastrointestinal and hematolymphoid tissues and resembled the toxicity of exatecan.

While CAD-associated venous thromboembolism is recognized, its role in arterial thromboembolic events, particularly ischemic stroke, is poorly defined. We report an 84-year-old woman who developed acute onset upper left extremity weakness following exposure to sub-zero temperatures.

Parvovirus B19 frequently infects children and targets cells of the erythroid lineage. Although healthy children rarely suffer severe disease, children with sickle cell disease (SCD) can experience transient red cell aplasia (TRCA), hospitalization, and life-threatening anemia upon first virus exposure. Given that children with SCD can also suffer chronic inflammation and that parvovirus B19 has been associated with autoimmune disease in other patient populations, we asked if parvovirus B19 infections contributed to acute and chronic immune abnormalities in children with SCD.

Acute breath-holding (apnoea) induces a spleen contraction leading to a transient increase in haemoglobin concentration. Additionally, the apnoea-induced hypoxia has been shown to lead to an increase in erythropoietin concentration up to 5 h after acute breath-holding, suggesting long-term haemoglobin enhancement. Given its potential to improve haemoglobin content, an important determinant for oxygen transport, apnoea has been suggested as a novel training method to improve aerobic performance.
