In 1992, 15 of 152 patients with open fractures were treated with vacuum sealing. Drainage tubes are inserted into polyvinyl foam, which is used to fill in the wound or tissue defect. Polyvinyl foam and adjacent skin are covered with a transparent polyurethane dressing which is impermeable to bacteria. The connection of the drainage tubes to a suction device, such as vacuum bottles, produces negative pressure in the polyvinyl foam, which means a high-contact zone of the foam-wound interface. This results in efficient cleaning and conditioning of the wound, with marked proliferation of granulation tissue. Bone infection did not occur in any of our 15 patients; 1 patient sustained a soft tissue infection due to an insufficient sealing technique. When the correct technique was applied the infection cleared up.

To effectively utilize sesbania gum in coal dust control and address the limitations of excessive viscosity and mediocre strength, oxidation treatment was used to improve its fluidity. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and sodium trimetaphosphite (STMP) were used to enhance oxidized sesbania gum OSG, and crosslinking technology was used to improve its mechanical stability. This study developed a novel foam dust suppressant OSG-PVA/SDBS by response surface design, and the optimized dust suppressant material exhibited excellent adhesion and curing properties.

Trichloroethylene (TCE) is widely used in various industrial applications, leading to significant environmental and public health concerns due to its toxicity and persistence. Current nonthermal liquid-phase TCE treatment methods, including electrochemical processes, typically produce liquid byproducts that require additional separation steps, limiting their efficiency. To overcome these challenges, this study introduces an innovative electrochemical approach for the direct conversion of TCE gas into less harmful gaseous products, utilizing a Cu/Ni alloy 3D foam electrode integrated with a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-sodium polyphosphate (SPP) gel membrane system.

The potential threat of soil microplastics (MPs, particle sizes smaller than 5 mm) to the agricultural environment and food security production has become a hot issue, but there are few systematic studies on the characteristics and influencing factors of MP pollution in agricultural soil in China. Based on the data of soil MPs and related environmental factors (temperature, precipitation, soil pH, and organic carbon) and social and economic factors (permanent population, gross regional product per capita, gross industrial product per capita, and cultivated land area per capita) extracted from 6 694 samples from 85 published studies from 2020 to 2023, meta-analysis was performed. The characteristics of MPs pollution in agricultural soil and the key factors affecting the accumulation of MPs in soil in six administrative regions of China were analyzed.

Foam-based wound dressing materials produced by dispersing gas phases in a polymeric material are soft, adapt to the body shape, and allow the absorption of wound exudate due to their porous structure. Most of these formulations are based on synthetic substances such as polyurethane. However, biopolymers have entered the field as a new player thanks to their biocompatible and sustainable nature.

Objectives: Postpartum haemorrhage is the most common cause of mortality among women after childbirth. Therefore, this work aims to highlight the possibility of endovascular treatment of postpartum haemorrhage due to remnants in patients with placenta accreta spectrum disorders (PAS disorders) using selective UAE after failure of the standard management. This procedure is a relatively safe and technically nondemanding, with a low risk of recurrent vaginal bleeding.
