This paper investigates the relative contributions of accentuation and of durational word boundary cues to listeners' perceived word segmentation in Dutch. A listening experiment is reported, in which 36 two-word phrases with an ambiguous word boundary were used as stimuli. Four groups of 20 subjects each had to make a forced binary choice between the two contrastive boundary positions. Accent position on either the first or second word was varied between stimulus phrases. In both contrastive realizations of each ambiguous phrase, two durational boundary cues were manipulated, viz. duration of the pivotal consonant and rise time of the postboundary vowel. Results show that durational word boundary markers are perceptually relevant for subjects' perceived word segmentation, but only if the manipulated segment is realized as word-initial. Second, accuracy in perceived word segmentation is higher if the second word (following the ambiguous boundary position) is accented. The latter result is probably due to the higher acoustic and perceptual salience of durational as well as spectral boundary cues, which occur in initial position in the second word. Hence, the contribution of accent to word segmentation may be partly due to its "enhancing" effect on phonetic word boundary markers.

Patients are turning to OHCs to deal with the stresses and complications of infertility. As a stigmatized disease, infertile patients may value informational support and emotional support differently, which is ignored in existing studies. Based on social support theory, this study aims to reveal the role of informational support and emotional support of doctors in infertile patient decision-making.

AOS can result from neurodegeneration, in which case it can be accompanied by the primary agrammatic aphasia (PAA), which when presenting together are called AOS+PAA. AOS can also be the sole manifestation of neurodegeneration, termed primary progressive AOS (PPAOS).

This paper addresses the critical challenge of interpretability in machine learning methods for machine fault diagnosis by introducing a novel ad hoc interpretable neural network structure called Sparse Temporal Logic Network (STLN). STLN conceptualizes network neurons as logical propositions and constructs formal connections between them using specified logical operators, which can be articulated and understood as a formal language called Weighted Signal Temporal Logic. The network includes a basic word network using wavelet kernels to extract intelligible features, a transformer encoder with sparse and structured neural attention to locate informative signal segments relevant to decision-making, and a logic network to synthesize a coherent language for fault explanation.

We aimed to develop and evaluate Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) for fetal ultrasound using actionable concepts as feedback to end-users, using a prospective cross-center, multi-level approach. We developed, implemented, and tested a deep-learning model for fetal growth scans using both retrospective and prospective data. We used a modified Progressive Concept Bottleneck Model with pre-established clinical concepts as explanations (feedback on image optimization and presence of anatomical landmarks) as well as segmentations (outlining anatomical landmarks).

Background: Computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) is frequently performed in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH) and may aid non-invasive estimation of pulmonary hemodynamics. We, therefore, investigated automated volumetry of intrapulmonary vasculature on CTPA, separated into core and peel fractions of the lung volume and its potential to differentially reflect pulmonary hemodynamics in patients with pre- and postcapillary PH.
Methods: A retrospective case-control study of 72 consecutive patients with PH according to the 2022 joint guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology and the European Respiratory Society who underwent right heart catheterization (RHC) and CTPA within 7 days between August 2013 and February 2016 at Thoraxklinik at Heidelberg University Hospital (Heidelberg, Germany) was conducted.
