This paper summarizes the results obtained from investigations in which distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) were studied together with other cochlear physiological parameters. The cochlear metabolism was subjected to three different experimental conditions: guinea pigs were either submitted to hypoxia, to an intra-cochlear perfusion of ouabain or to an intra-cochlear perfusion of naloxone. The data show that DPOAEs remain affected for a certain time after the metabolic perturbations were removed. The comparison of the behaviour of DPOAEs and of other cochlear parameters gives good indications on the way these different experimental procedures affect the functioning of the cochlea during and after their application.

Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae poses a severe risk to global public health, necessitating the immediate development of novel therapeutic strategies. The current study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the green algae Arthrospira maxima (commercially known as Spirulina) both in vitro and in vivo against carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the correlation between prevalent risk factors for high-risk neonates in neonatal intensive care unit and their hearing loss, and to examine the audiological features and genetic profiles associated with different deafness mutations in our tertiary referral center. This research seeks to deepen our understanding of the etiology behind congenital hearing loss.
Methods: We conducted initial hearing screenings, including automated auditory brainstem response, distortion product otoacoustic emission, and acoustic immittance on 443 high-risk neonates within 7 days after birth and 42 days (if necessary) after birth.

Activation of HO cleavage for H* production by defect engineering eliminates the insufficient supply of protons in the NORR process under neutral conditions. However, it remains challenging to precisely control the defect formation for optimizing the equilibrium between H* production and H* binding. Here, we propose a strategy to boost defect generation through S-doping induced NiFe-LDH lattice distortion, and successfully optimize the balance of H* production and binding.

Background: The brain is a potential target for aluminium toxicity as it induces oxidative stress, strategies, rich in polyphenolic compound, containing flavonoid and possessing antioxidant property, found in natural plant products, to attenuate aluminium-induced impairments could provide a potential therapeutic intervention and protection for aluminium neurotoxicity.
Method: Forty adult rats weighing between 160 - 165g was used. The rats were divided into four groups (n = 10).

Electrostriction is the upsurge of strain under an electric field in any dielectric material. Oxygen-defective metal oxides, such as acceptor-doped ceria, exhibit high electrostriction 10 mV values, which can be further enhanced via interface engineering at the nanoscale. This effect in ceria is "non-classical" as it arises from an intricate relation between defect-induced polarisation and local elastic distortion in the lattice.
