The position of an object in the visual field is a global characteristic of the object which must be determined shortly after its appearance. This characteristic is useful for organizing actions towards the object or for its better examination. A model of visual localization based on the concept of "image function" is proposed. It predicts that the centroid of a visual object determines its position. The centroid could be easily extracted from the maximum in the image function under certain conditions. Symmetry and size may influence the accuracy (absolute and relative) in locating visual objects.

Purpose: To develop a deep learning (DL) model based on primary tumor tissue to predict the lymph node metastasis (LNM) status of muscle invasive bladder cancer (MIBC), while validating the prognostic value of the predicted aiN score in MIBC patients.
Methods: A total of 323 patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) were used as the training and internal validation set, with image features extracted using a visual encoder called UNI. We investigated the ability to predict LNM status while assessing the prognostic value of aiN score.

Background matching and disruptive coloration are defense mechanisms of animals against visual predators. Disruptive coloration tends to evolve in microhabitats that are visually heterogeneous, while background matching is favored in microhabitats that are chromatically homogeneous. Controlling for the phylogeny, we explored the evolution of the coloration and the marking patterns in the sexual dichromatic and widely distributed neotropical grasshoppers of the genus Sphenarium.

Purpose: Alteration of visual acuity in wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is mostly driven by vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A)-induced edema from leaky newly forming blood vessels below the retina layers. To date, all therapies aimed at alleviation of this process have relied on inhibition of VEGF-A activity. Although effective in preventing vascular leak and edema, this approach also leads to the loss of normal vasculature and multiple related side effects.
