A method of flow horizontal chromatography has been developed permitting investigation of blood and tissue cellular phospholipids ruling out lipid peroxidation effects on cellular membranes. Phospholipid levels of blood and myometrial tissue cells were measured by this method in 67 patients with histologically verified internal endometriosis. Phospholipid and phosphatidyl inosite levels in platelets and immunocompetent cells of these patients reliably differed from those in healthy women. Phosphatidyl inosite levels of heterotopic endometrial tissue was increased by 1.4 times vs. the norm on an average. In parallel with this, a reliable change of phosphatidyl cholines and inosites levels in endometriosis foci were detected as against their levels in intact tissue. The authors suggest a method for the diagnosis of internal endometriosis by phosphatidyl inosite levels in blood lymphocytes.

Phosphatidyl inosite levels in all the substrates in cancer patients, on the average, proved half the normal one while, in the benign tumor group, they only tended to decrease. The levels did not depend upon blood count.

The present notions on the pathways of phosphoinositide metabolism in a cell and on the functional significance of the given process are reported. The enzymic systems providing catabolism of phosphoinositides are analyzed. The data indicating the dose interrelation between the stimulation of the phosphatidyl inosite and polyphosphoinositides metabolism by hormones and the Ca2+ transport into a cell are generalized.

The absolute content of total phospholipids and their acid fractions (phosphatidyl serine, phosphatyl inosite and cardiolipin) are raised in rats with experimental hyperthyroidism due to intensification of their biosynthesis. In animals with hypothyroidism a decrease in the level of total phospholipids and their certain fractions (cardiolipin, phosphatidyl serine and phosphatyl inosite) correlates with the inhibition of the intensity of 32P and 3H-fatty acids incorporation into the composition of phospholipids.
