Introduction: Prolongation of Q-Tc interval is commonly accepted as a surrogate marker for the ability of a drug to cause torsade de pointes. In the present study, safety of olanzapine versus risperidone was compared among a group of patients with schizophrenia to see the frequency of the electrocardiographic alterations induced by those atypical antipsychotics.
Method: Two hundred and sixty-eight female inpatients with schizophrenia entered in one of the two parallel groups to participate in an open study for random assignment to olanzapine (n = 148) or risperidone (n = 120).

Many drugs used in anaesthesia have some potential fatal consequences; for example complete heart block and Q-Tc interval prolongation. Since the parasympathetic system in children is not fully developed, electrical transmission of the heart is not stable. Neostigmine is used in order to reverse neuromuscular block but it may also lead to prolongation of Q-Tc interval.

Objective: To detect the changes of cardiovascular system at different altitudes, so as to prevent and predict the susceptibility to acute mountain sickness.
Methods: The test was performed with noninvasive cardiovascular monitor and electrocardiogram in healthy male Chinese members of the 25th and 26th expeditions to the antarctic kunlun station at different altitudes (40 m, 3 650 m and 4 300 m).
Results: Compared with 40 m, from 3 650 m to 4 300 m, heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP), systemic vascular resistance (SVR), systemic vascular resistance index (SVRI) significantly increased (P < 0.
