Medicinal plants, mushrooms, and endophytes offer a rich source of secondary metabolites (SMs), including flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and terpenoids, with proven antiviral properties against SARS-CoV-2. Plant-associated microorganisms that colonize in living tissues of different parts of a plant possess the ability to produce SMs of immense therapeutic value and this biological interaction between plants and microbes can be exploited to develop antiviral drugs against SARS-CoV-2. The unprecedented lethality of the SARS-CoV-2 virus during the recent global pandemic has prompted extensive research into new treatment options and preventive strategies for COVID-19.

Neuroblastoma (NB), a common infantile neuroendocrine tumor, presents a substantial therapeutic challenge when MYCN is amplified. Given that the protein structure of N-Myc is disordered, we utilized Alphafold for prediction and GROMACS for optimization of the N-Myc structure, thereby improving the reliability of the predicted structure. The publicly available datasets GSE49710 and GSE73517 were adopted, which contain the transcriptome data of clinical samples from 598 NB patients.

Calycosin alleviates ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis by promoting BMSCs autophagy via the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway.

Naunyn Schmiedebergs Arch Pharmacol

March 2025

Department of Orthopedics, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, 510260, Guangdong Province, People's Republic of China.

Calycosin, the main extract from the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) Astragalus membranaceus, has demonstrated anti-osteoporotic properties in ovariectomized (OVX) mice. However, the specific pathways through which it prevents osteoporosis remain unexplored. This study aimed to investigate the pathways by which calycosin promotes autophagy in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and alleviates ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis.
