Rationale And Objectives: Laser-induced interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) may become an attractive modality for minimally invasive tumor therapy. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could be used to assist this procedure.
Methods: A T1-weighted turbo fast low-angle shot (FLASH) sequence for on-line monitoring of the laser-influenced region (liver, muscle) was investigated. Sequence parameters were optimized for maximal image contrast. Magnetic resonance imaging-controlled LITT was performed in vitro, in vivo (rabbits), and in 8 human investigations (6 patients). Special laser applicators were used to establish a uniform laser light distribution.
Results: With the MRI sequence used, the LITT region is visualized as a bright area outlined by a dark border. This dark border corresponds to an isotherm of 45 +/- 2 degrees C depending on the sequence parameters used.
Conclusion: With the T1-weighted turbo-FLASH sequence, MRI can be used for on-line monitoring of interstitial laser-induced thermotherapy in moving organs.

Inferior frontal sulcal hyperintensities (IFSH) observed on fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) MRI have been proposed as indicators of elevated cerebrospinal fluid waste accumulation in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). However, to validate IFSH as a reliable imaging biomarker, further replication studies are required. The objective of this study was to investigate associations between IFSH and CSVD, and their potential repercussions, i.

The brainstem plays a vital role in regulating blood pressure, and disruptions to its neural pathways have been linked to hypertension. However, it remains unclear whether subtle microstructural changes in the brainstem are associated with an individual's blood pressure status. This exploratory, cross-sectional study investigated the relationship between brainstem microstructure, myelination, and hypertensive status in 116 cognitively unimpaired adults (aged 22-94 years).

Acute internal carotid artery occlusion (AICAO) can result in malignant cerebral edema and unfavorable patient outcomes. This study evaluated the utility of transcranial Doppler (TCD) in assessing contralateral flow compensation and predicting outcomes in patients with AICAO. We enrolled 51 patients within 6 h of symptom onset and conducted TCD examinations to evaluate collateral circulation.

To assess the utility of IVIM parameters in evaluating uterine fibroid blood flow compared to dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) derived blood flow. Sixteen premenopausal women with uterine fibroids were enrolled in this prospective study. Pelvic MRI scans were obtained for each subject, both with and without continuous intravenous infusion of oxytocin, known to decrease significantly uterine fibroid blood flow, to assess the changes in blood flow of uterine fibroids.

Background: While many COVID-19-induced anosmia patients recover their sense of smell within a few months, a substantial number of them continue to experience olfactory impairment. In our primary study, the metabolic patterns in orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) were observed to exhibit more alterations than other regions. Hence, this study specifically probes into alterations within OFC region in subjects with persistent COVID-19-induced anosmia.
